Chapter Six

"Hey baby, I missed you. I’m so glad you’re here." Kevin opened his arms and Kristin walked into his embrace. It was opening night and she had just arrived from the airport.

‘Fuckin’ gag me now.’ Alex thought to himself as he watched them from his spot on the couch. He wanted to get up and run out of Kevin’s suite, but he knew if he did it would raise questions. Kevin was all about the questions lately. He had no intention of giving him any openings to ask any more.

Just minutes earlier he’d asked him the most insane question yet. Was he happy with the way his life was turning out? What the fuck? He’d answered saying, "Who wouldn’t be Kev? I’ve got fame, money, a girlfriend who loves me, thousands of girls who’d willing take her place in a heartbeat - although that still baffles me - what's there not to be happy with?"

Kevin had pinned him down with a look. "That doesn’t answer my question. Are you happy with it?"

Alex was at a loss. What was he supposed to say? ‘No Kev, I’m not happy because despite the fame, money, and screaming girls – not to mention all the horny guys – who wouldn’t give me the time of day if I wasn’t a Backstreet Boy, I don’t have what I really want. You.’ Oh yeah, that would have went over really well, especially since Kevin was as straight as an arrow and at that moment waiting for his wife to arrive.

No, he couldn’t say that, so instead he’d turned it on him. "What kind of fucking question is that anyway? Why don’ t you tell me? Are you happy with the way your life is turning out Kev? Give me an answer and I’ll give you one."

Okay, that had sounded so grade-schoolish, but he just didn’t know what else to say. He wouldn’t lie. He’d already lied about too much in order to keep his obsession with him a secret from him. He never got an answer though, because as Kevin opened his mouth to say something, Kristin had walked in. Now Alex was stuck sitting there watching them hug and smile at each other. He wanted to puke.

Kevin stared down into Kristin’s eyes, knowing he should be as happy as he was pretending to be, but he just couldn’t find the emotion inside himself. His mind kept wandering to Alex sitting over on the couch, watching them. He’d invited him over to keep him company until Kristin arrived…or at least that’s what he’d told himself. He couldn’t admit he hadn’t wanted to be alone when she showed up…more specifically, he’d wanted to spend time with Alex, just the two of them.

The question he’d asked him and then subsequently been asked in return kept coming to mind. Was he happy with his life? No. He wasn’t. That was the honest truth. He’d been about to tell him that when Kris had walked in. Now the moment was lost.

He hadn’t meant to ask that question though. That had been a spur of the moment thing, it had just sort of popped out. Maybe because of that picture of them together that he’d stared at in his wallet the day before. Alex had been different then. Happier. It was obvious that he wasn’t now, and the glimpse of the old Alex that he’d gotten the day before on the couch in Nick’s room had gotten him thinking. Why wasn’t he the same old Alex. What had happened to change that?

Kristin tried to hide the sudden rush of anger that surged through her upon walking into the room and finding Alex there, lounging on the sofa like he owned the place. Correction. Not like he owned the hotel room, but rather, like he owned Kevin.

Damnit! Kevin was hers. He’d married her. So why did Alex seem to have this…this…hold on him? She had her suspicions, but no facts so she kept it to herself. Deep down though, she didn’t need any confirmation. She knew the answer. Alex was in love with Kevin. The only part she wasn’t sure about was how Kevin felt about him. She doubted even he knew himself.

Kristin decided to stake her claim. Leaning up, she pulled Kevin down to her with a hand at the back of his neck and kissed him. A long, deep kiss. When his arms tightened around her, she fought the smile that threatened her lips, wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing herself to him. Round one, Kristin.

Alex watched from his spot on the couch, his fists clenching and unclenching. Now he needed another drink He’d had several before showing up at Kevin’s door, at Kevin’s request. He was still baffled by that. He hated watching them kiss and the way Kevin was holding her made him sick to his stomach. He scowled.

Sarah chose that moment to walk past the doorway and glance inside, taking in the scene. She watched Alex’s face as he watched Kristin and Kevin practically make out in front of him and her heart went out to him.

They’d had a long talk after what had happened the other day and it had ended with him promising never again to do drugs when she was in the same hotel room as him, let alone the same city. She’d had to threaten to leave him and expose him to the rest of the guys to get that promise out of him, but got it she had, and then had promptly forgiven him. She couldn’t help herself. His sad brown eyes got to her every time. Deciding she couldn’t watch Alex’s heart get ripped out of his chest any longer, she walked into the room, absently knocking on the door as she entered.

"Hey baby, there you are. I’ve been looking for you."

Alex tore his eyes off the ‘happy’ couple and shot her a confused look. She had known where he was headed. She’d been there when he’d gotten the call from Kevin to come over. He caught the look in her eye though and quickly schooled his features, catching on. She was trying to make it a little easier for him. Bless her.

"I’m right here with the two love-birds." Alex said, shooting a grin at Kevin and Kristin as they finally pulled their lips apart. Kristin almost screamed at the way Kevin sucked in his breath at Alex’s grin. She didn’t know if he was in love with him, but she could definitely tell he was infatuated.

Alex stood and took Sarah in his arms. "I’ve been wanting to do this all day. I missed you."

He leaned in and kissed her much the way Kristin had just been kissing Kevin. In fact, as he closed his eyes, he pretended it was Kevin. Nothing new, he always did that…just usually not in front of him.

Kristin nearly swore out loud as Kevin’s arms dropped away from her and he glowered at Alex and Sarah. Round two, Alex. Only he didn’t have a clue they were playing, with Kevin as the prize. Kristin knew though and she was determined to win.

After a moment, Alex lifted his head and shot another smile at the other couple. "Catch ya later. I need to be alone with my girlfriend."

Grabbing her hand, he led her out of the room, not waiting for a response. At the door though, he glanced over his shoulder and said, "Oh, and hi Kris, nice to see you again…maybe you can distract Kev here a little so he won’t constantly be up my butt."

Kevin sucked in another breath as he hardened slightly at the thought of Alex’s butt. What the fuck? It’d been a couple of days since he watched him jack off and even longer since that strange kiss in the doorway of Alex’s hotel suite in New York. In that time he’d managed to get hard at the thought of anything remotely sexual relating to Alex more times than he could count. Now his butt was affecting him?

First Alex had no butt, as he was fond of pointing out himself. Kevin watched said butt as it disappeared around the corner with the rest of Alex. He didn’t agree. Alex had a butt all right, a small, firm, tight butt. A sexy butt. Kevin hardened more. He scowled and grabbed Kristin, determined to shove all thoughts of Alex’s butt out of his head.

Kristin let out a yelp of surprise that quickly turned to a moan of desire as Kevin attacked her mouth, pressing his hard-on into her. She slid her hands up his chest and neck to tangle in his long hair, refusing to even consider the possibility that his erection wasn’t caused by her.
