Water

I have been saying that you will definitely work when your Winter camping.  Unseemingly, you will sweat more than you'd ever thought possible in the middle of Winter. It's true! The temperature is -25C, you really would be cold if you just came from the car to the nearest doorstep, not even 10 meters away with no jacket on. When your body is acclimatized, it reacts to the work effort completely different and the work to plow your gear through 3 to 4 feet of fluffy snow can really make you sweat. If your dressed too warm, your body is overheating and you are literally drenched with sweat from your own body perspiration. Layering is where you find this balance to remain warm when active in your Winter journey.

So, one BIG fear is that you really need to keep yourself hydrated. Once dehydration has set in, your body will begin to shut down, slurred speach and disorientation also occur. Think of it this way, "If you don't pee, you die". Simple as that, your body needs more water in Winter than you would think. If your not using the washroom on a normal level ( number one! ) then your not drinking enough. Water is one necessity you need and that can be as simple as boiling snow. ( but go slow at it, snow does need some slush or water as a starter) . You can take water in teas or coffee, with juice crystals to liven it up a bit, or even in soups to add some nourishment for the soul if not the body. Drink,  drink and drink even more! ( water, i mean!)

Go number one before bed or bring a pee bottle into the shelter so you don't have to make the call in the middle of the night! Once you have to go, don't hold it, holding back the need really seems to put a chill into your body and sooner or later you will have to go anyway! Make it sooner instead. Remember to mark your work, we don't want to get these bottles mixed up!
