Active Blather: March 2002

4/7/02
I'm getting bad at updating the strip once again. I can get a strip posted for Tuesday, but the Thursday strip never seems to come out on time.  Must stop that from happening!

It snowed Friday night. Very weird-looking snow. It looked all fuzzy for some reason, like endless piles of frozen dryer lint. I wish I could show a picture of the stuff, but whoever takes pictures of snow?

My five-year-old niece, Keke, got her ears pierced a couple of weeks ago. She's such a brave little girl! The thought of me getting anything pierced sends shivers down this fat man's spine. I do remember piercing my own tongue with a Christmas ornament when I was about three. I was so cool then.

Hey, we're celebrating an anniversary! My little comic strip has been on the web for one year! All the fun began on April 1, 2001 and Those Funky Idiots have been appearing sporadically ever since! I think it has been a good year for the most part. Not as many strips as I hoped, but a good beginning. The best is yet to come!

On the TV side of things, The Idiots celebrated their seventh year on public access this past March. Hopefully, we have a few more years in front of us!

I got a couple of belated birthdays to mention. My niece, Keeley, turned five on March 30 and our very own Tim Richardson became legit on March 31.

This past week I learned it doesn't pay to gamble! (So pay attention, kids!) I won't go into the hoary details, but it involved a scene in the great flick, Almost Famous.  I had my money on Anna Paquin. It turned out to be Fairuza Balk. I lost five bucks and a little piece of my dignity.

After two days of the white stuff (no, not marshmallows!), the blue skies of spring could be seen today. The temperatures reached into the forties and the snow is quietly melting away. Let's hope this winter business is now behind us.

As I was driving home from work, I noticed my car was making a sound when I stopped, A knock coming from my back left tire. I don't know what it means, but I already feel it is a harbinger of doom. I can't help it. The idea of car trouble always makes me worry. Is a tire rod going out? The back axis? The wheel itself? Will I find myself driving along and my wheel decides to fall off? So many potential car mishaps! Which one will I fall victim to? Oh, the perils of an overactive imagination!

Okay, deep breath.....I'll be fine. I just hope my car will be, too!

Oh, how was work? It got better as it got closer to the time to go home. In other words, typical.

I'm ending on a poetic note. Something to wash the worry and the mundane away.

Baby Drives a Go-Cart

Baby drives a go-cart
She drives it all over town
Baby drives a go-cart
She puts the throttle down

Faster than lightning!
Faster than the cops!
Baby drives a go-cart
And I pray she never stops

As I write this, it's almost 4:00 am and I'm getting tired. I didn't get much sleep last night. I did a lot of tossing and turning, but no zzzzing. I blame it on the caffeine. I must have downed four cans of Coke while watching the Oscars. (A big Yay-Rah for Randy Newman for finally winning! He was sadly becoming the Oscars' answer to Susan Lucci, but that fortunately changed.)

The weather outside is frightfully winter like. Snow and freezing rain dropped in yesterday like unexpected, deadbeat relatives. Driving on roads caked with ice can really shatter your illusions of spring. The forecast promises warmer weather by week's end. Can't wait.

Just recently a colleague of mine, Miss Christy Hiday, wrote and illustrated a little story about yours truly. It's a work of fiction that is both charming and cruel. It may not make sense to the casual reader, but it was too good not to share! Enjoy!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Not much to add this time around. Still plodding through life and such. I was planning to tape Muncie's St. Patrick's Day parade yesterday, but I slept through it. Just call me "Mr. Sleepyhead".

Hey, I finally found out the way to get rid of the lines under the hyperlinks! I just typed in a line of HTML and the links became lineless! Whenever I dabble with HTML, I feel like a total webmaster.

I'm still running behind on the strips. Expect the next strip on Friday or Saturday. Gotta get busy!

My sister-in-law, Carrie, turns another year older on Thursday (3/14/02). Happy Birthday, Carrie!

You can tell I'm back at work. Besides being bored and frustrated, I missed Thursday's strip update! Argh! Hopefully, things will get back on track this week. (Fingers crossed!)

Our director/editor supreme Tim Richardson is still editing our next episode, "The Comedy Stylings of Sven Juppen". He hopes to have it completed when he comes back from spring break. Safe journey, Tim!

Hey, some people I know are celebrating their birthdays Monday (3/11/02)! Happy Birthday to Eric Whetsel and Karen Hiday from all of us at Those Funky Idiots!

Went back to work today. It was pretty painless for the most part. I had trouble with my coat's zipper which caused alarm with a couple of my colleagues. After minutes of struggle, the zipper became unzipped and happiness flooded the plant. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the melee.

As noted before, Welcome to Eltingville premiered on the Cartoon Network Sunday. It was pretty good. The characters were not as profane as they are in the comics, but their hateful/pathetic natures were nicely captured. Hopefully, more episodes will be produced in the future.
