April 29th Contest Results

Results from the Sanctioned DB Dragracing Car Audio Competition on April 29th:

Offical Results are at DBDRAGRACING.COM

Jason (Vice President) competed and was very successful in his run for a title in the "street 3-4" class. That put his 3-10" JLW3's up against anyone with 3-4 10's or 3-4 12's, which also were not using walls.
Last year, the only competitors that were even close or could beat him with 3-4 subs were all using walls, so the use of the "NO WALLS" this year makes it alot more fair for Jason and Venom to compete.
In the qualification round, Jason's system was able to get a solid score of 146.1 dbs. He played his system for under 3 seconds. That was enough to rank 1st in his class to lead into the playoffs with a bye in the first round.
If you remember seeing or reading about "Venom" aka "Head Turner" in last years comp, he was scoring 148dbs consistantly. For this years comps, Jason added a power cap, and a small amount of dynamat on the back hatch. The added power reserve, adjustment of frequencys, gain, dynamat, as well as a different bass CD moved the scores from 148's and competing well to crushing his competition. I cant wait to see the jump in scoring when the new features get added to his "Venom".
After that, it was off to the playoffs. Since Jason had a bye in the first round, he had to wait around. In the second round, Jason turned down his volume and played the system for maybe a full second and got a score of 144.8 dbs to crush his competitor in the semifinals.
Then Jason was off to the finals. Without given a chance to charge back up his battery and the second place contender asking Jason to take it easy on him, Venom held back to score a 145.7 against 141.5 for his competitor. As soon as Venon played a note, the competitior rolled his eyes and put his head down. Then shrugged his shoulders and played his system. He tried, but came up alittle short. He turned it up and up, and made gains in DB's, but was quite a bit short.
So, after Jason scored 146.1 in the qualification round, a 144.8 in the playoffs, and a 145.7 in the finals...Venom was able to walk away with first place and having beat the second placing competitor by over 4 DB's.
Roy (President) also competed and did not come away with first but was happy to get another reading on his set-up. Roy was running a Rockford Fosgate Punch 500a2 bridged to a 18" JL Audio W6. He came away with a reading of 144.0 dbs in the qualification round. That score was 4th in his division.
That put him up against the 5th place competitor which had 143.9 db. That is as close as you can possibly get it. The competitor had his car charging up for quite awhile. Roy came up at the last minute and changed a few frequencys that came back to hunt him. He was able to register a 143.5 to my competitors 144.8 dbs. That meant I dropped .5 dbs and my compeitior raised .9 db. The added power supply for the upcoming contest should have easily given enough power to over take that round and possibly one more round. There's always upgrades to make. Also, the difference from 5th to 3rd was less than 2 DB, so the Super Street 1-2NW was a close battle field.
The most stressful thing about the show was the day before. Camelion would not co-operate with the wiring, so we had to run basically the same set up as last time, only without the 15" vega. Most of the audio should be installed for the May 6th comp.
Surprises for the show??? A World Record Holder in the Finals last year(Team Gates) was there showing off a vehicle in the 5K-10K watt class. It scored 171.6 last year and was ready to gain some points this year. The truck got in the lane, yet wasn't able to fire up. Supposedly, there was an amp that is the furthest forward and is the hardest to react that was malfunctioning. That kept everyone waiting until they just gave up and decided to withdrawl from the competition.
Chad Evan's Blazer running 8-12" JL W3's scored 149.8 dbs in the qualification round and made him made enough to withdrawl and drive back to Muncie(our home town) which ended up being between 2-2.5 hour drive. If he had stayed and hit anything close to the same score he would have been guarenteed atleast second place.
A car running the same speaker as Roy (18W6) was powered by two-1000DB and two-1100db amps. I'm running 500 watts, so I will soon be moving up to a larger one.
A guy in a grey probe(I think) had 2-24" Hurricain Sound Lab Subs. Can we say, HUGE!!!
In the Super Street 1-2 class, John's white Blazzer beat a Green blazer with a score of 149.5 dbs. The only problem is that the second place finisher scored a 149.5 on the same mic less than 2 minutes before that. Which meant there wasn't a different in score, but since his power was dropped for the next round, his score dropped a couple DB. That was enough for the victory, but I would want to see the white blazzer score higher for him to actually be crowned a victor. Both scored the same right after each other on the same mic. But it is a playoff set-up and that's how the chips fall.
