The simplest way is idle xp, where you get xp just for playing. You don't have to do anything to earn it, except be logged on. Of-course you don't get much xp this way, and it is rather boring.
A new way of getting xp is to use your guild points(gp). Every time you use a guild command such as casting a spell or sneaking, you use gp which you now get xp for. Again you don't get much, but it's sure as hell better than nothing, especialy for a newbie. The best way to get xp is to kill things.
There are lots and lots of the things on the disc to kill, unfortunately they have a nasty habit of trying to kill you back!! You can basically try to kill everything on the disc except for other players, even some of the trees :-) There are a few things you shouldn't kill, such as peoples pets, and cats and priests in KLK. Also wizards have a nasty habit of carrying satchels that explode when you attack them, and if you attack a priest in AM you may also have to face the priest guild heavies. Also always look at a man or woman in AM before you attack them as they maybe feefs heavies who aside from being nasty fighters, you get heavied if you do manage to kill one.
So how do you go about killing things? Firstly its a good idea to have some fighting skills, these differ from guild to guild, but they all start of as fighting which then branches off to fighting.combat then so on. Also if your going to kill things its wise to have some other.health skills as that determines your hit points and therefore how easy it is for your potential target to return the favour.
Next you need a weapon, these can be found by searching or bought in a shop. You then have to hold the weapon, and you can use both hands to hold two one-handed weapons such as a dagger, or a two handed weapon such as a bastard sword. Also the weapon should suit your skills eg: a sword for sharp skills, a mace for blunt, and a stiletto for pierce.
So how do you then go about slaughtering the Disc's inhabitants?
The first thing you should always do is make sure you are not attacking something stronger than yourself, therefore type con(sider) all and it will tell you your potential victims relative strength to you. If your victim is weaker than you just type kill name, if there a poor beggar or something then just type kill beggar you don't have to type poor unless there is more than one in the room. Also you can use the monitor command to watch your hit points in a fight, and the wimpy command to set at what level you run away. Unfortunately when you are new you don't get to kill beggars straight off and need to practice on cockroaches and rats.
When you do successfully kill something, type get all from corpse, this will get everything the corpse is carrying, for you to use or sell. Of-course rats and cockroaches tend not to carry much money :-) Once you have looted your corpse it is then very important to bury corpse, as half the xp from the kill comes from burying it, also burying things helps stop the disk from getting laggy
Sadly most quests no longer give xp, though there are still a few that do, so they are worth doing. Unfortunately you can't ride off on your white horse in your shiny armour to kill dragons and save the virgin, as the only white horse belongs to someone you don't want to meet, the armour tends to rust in AM's toxic atmosphere, the dragons are now all peoples pets that have a tendency to blow up when you poke them with a sharp object, and virgins tend to be scarce. So how does a would be adventurer make their name in legend then?? If you read help quests it will say tough cookies, you get no help. Quests are one subject that you cant discuss on the talkers as your supposed to go find and do them yourself, but because you asked so nicely I will give you a few general hints.
You have already done a quest by helping the womble find her brooch, and you will find that lots of the Disc's inhabitants are just as keen to get you to help them as the womble. You may have to have a bit of a chat with them to find out exactly what they want and tell them you will help them, but is worth listening to people before killing them.
A great adventurer is also a great explorer, so look in all the nooks and crannies, and who knows what secrets you will find.
Any quester worth their salt knows that quests often involve strange objects that have to be found then used for something or taken somewhere or fixed or whatever. So keep your eyes open for the unusual.
Like the rest of the world it is often possible to get experience by getting a job, the disc has several businesses who are only two happy to give an upcoming adventurer some work experience.
Just be aware that with the great rewards can often come great danger, and that some things are best left to the profesionals, but don't despair as there is plenty to do for everyone.
The best hint I give you is visit every room on the Disc, look at everything, search everything and then do it all again, and who knows you may even find that damsel in distress to rescue :-) When you have done a quest you can type score quests to show you a list of all your completed quests.
