THE
NEWBIE
AREA

YEAH I AM HERE!!! Now What???? When you arrive the room description shows your are in a cavernous room. It then shows you the obvious exits, which in this case are helpme, communication, hints, guilds, commerce, align, advancement, combat and out. And finally anything in the room, which is some signs and maybe some other players. The first thing you could do is look at yourself by typing l <your nick> (< > is used in help files to show you replace what's in them with the appropriate word and you then don't type the < >), and you can also type i to see what's in your inventory, which is what your carrying. Then you should read all the signs by typing r <sign> eg: r Discworld . These signs give you some very useful information, which is the whole purpose of this area.

You will keep getting a message that there are new announcements, so keep typing news to read them and stop the message. You also got a message when you logged on saying you should set your finger information using the chfn command. If you type finger <name> then you will see things such as the players real name, location, email and web page. You can set yours by typing chfn and following the prompts, though none of this information is mandatory its just for other players to see.

Next you should try an exit, for instance typing guilds will take you to the guild area. All of the Disc's guilds have a room in this area which you can enter by typing the guilds name, and you can go into these rooms and read all about the guilds. I will discuss guilds in more detail later, as for now, the rooms are just for general information on them. Typing foyer will get you back into the area you started, where you can pick another exit.

The helpme, hints, advancement and communication rooms are full of very informative signs you should read (in advancement type look notices to see what signs there are).

When you type commerce you will visit a shop where you can buy and sell things like the general stores in the main game. While there you should buy some weapons so you can practice with them. I suggest a dagger and/or sword and a cudgel or mace or something blunt, these will give you the three types of attacks you can practice, sharp, pierce and blunt. You can also buy things like clothes and torches, but dont stress over what to buy as you can buy them all again latter on. Also you can sell the weapons that you decide you dont want to keep.

When you type combat you will visit a room where greg will ask if you want to practice just say yes, then in the room he takes you too, hold a weapon then kill dummy. While you are fighting you well keep getting messages saying your better at this and that, these are called tms and are a way of advancing your skills for free just by using them and are therefore very usefull. If you type skills fighting you will see your fighting skills, and it is some of these that are getting better. You want to tm pierce, sharp, blunt, and the melee part of dodge and parry each to 5. You will need to have several goes with several weapons to get them all to 5, but it is well worth it.

Once you have visited all the rooms you can type out to leave the newbie area, but it wont let you as it will say you haven't done the womble quest. In one of the rooms you will find a womble who has lost her brooch, so you have to search in every room you visit until you find it and give brooch to womble, then you will allowed to use the out exit.

Arrrgh, I am scared of heights!!!

Soxy will take you home
