THE
NATIONALITY
AREA
Below is a travellers guide to the various areas you can choose from.
Morpork
Morpork is the area around the city of Ankh-Morpork and is the easiest region to start in. Sto Lat is a semi rural city with lots of things to do and kill, the only problem is that the population take offence to you killing or stealing there and the royal guards will throw you out when they catch you, which is a real pain, so this isn't recommenced for newbies. Sto Helit isn't actually in game yet, so you end up in Sto Lat. Ankh-Morpork is the biggest and oldest city on the Disc and by far the easiest to start in. All the guilds are represented and easy to get to, as are shops with everything you need. Also as long as you don't kill in front of a watchman then you can slaughter away. The only thing to watch out for is the men and woman that wander around, some of them are actually feef guild heavies, so always look at a man or woman before killing them. Unless you are a feef, you can not steal in AM without very nasty things happening to you, so don't do it.
Lancre
Lancre is a rural environment where the locals chew straw and marry sheep. It is made up of lots of small towns, none of which that have everything a newbie needs. At most they might have one guild in them, and limited shops. The only exception is that the main witches guild is in Bad Ass, so if your planning on being a witch then that's not a bad choice. If for some insane reason you choose Razorback or Slice to start in, then be very very careful when you move, as out in the mountains, if you type in a wrong direction, you will fall off and die. The only advantage of Lancre is that the locals do tend to be easy to kill, and you can steal in the region without any real penalty, but for a newbie the disadvantages out way the advantages and it's really not worth starting in Lancre.
Genua
Don't bother, it's not in game yet and you just end up at the drum.
Agatea
This mysterious area has only recently opened up for travel too. It has an Oriental flavour to it, where old people are revered and dogs are eaten. It doesn't matter which city you choose, as only Bes Pelargic is in game at the moment. It is a very popular area and does have everything a newbie will need, though finding things can be a problem. There is plenty to kill there, but do not do it in front of the Imperial Guards, as they will help the locals by slaughtering you. For the moment stealing isn't punished, though that could change quickly, also killing old people isn't recommended either. The major drawback is that it's a pain in the poop if you want to leave the Counter Weight Continent (CWC), as you can portal within it, but not out of it. Which means catching the Tshop on Tuna Walk to Brown Island then getting a portal from there. Also the guilds tend to be hidden and not very large. But this asides, CWC is fairly self contained and sort of newbie friendly and not a bad choice if you want something different to start with.
Klatch
Klatch is an old established area with an Egyptian theme, lots of pyramids and sacred cats and priests. It is a popular area for people to kill in, though killing cats or priests or stealing will result in you taking a swim with the hungry crocs, so not recommended. Other than that you are free to slaughter to your hearts content, and good money can be made there too. The guilds are all represented to varying degrees, and you can buy what you need with no trouble. You are now able to walk to AM from there if you so wish, so travel is no longer a problem. Remember that it is a desert area, so don't over do the clothing as being too hot can cause problems. Asides from being a bit to popular and therefore having lots of competition for things to kill, Klatch isn't a bad area to start with.
