
For the first time you are outside on the Disc, so take a deep breath and smell that air. After coughing your lungs up you decide that the Disc is rather to aromatic for that sort of thing. You will notice that the room description now has a weather report, and it may be night. Although Short St now has street lights, the rest of the Disc can be a dark and gloomy place, which is why you have the torches in your inventory which you can hold and then light. When you have some money you can buy better sources of light such as yellow rings, but for now whenever your in a general store see if you can buy a few extra torches as you never know if it will be dark when you log on. You will also notice there is probably a group of people here who you can look at to see the sort of fellow adventurers you will be playing with. You could also say hello to the room if you like.
When you look in your inventory you will find a voucher, which if you read will tell you you can exchange voucher for talker at Krazzander's Magic Tricks. A talker is how you chat to people on the disc, its a magical version of cb radio, and has several channels for discussion on different topics. The magic shop is two east then one south of the Drum, when you get your talker type talker help to see how to use it. The talker is used for general chit chat, but if you have a technical question you also have access to the newbie channel. To use it you type newbie <your msg>, and hopefully someone will help you, but just remember this channel is for questions only, not chit-chat. You turn your talker on and leave the shop to explore some of the hidden delights of AM.
