Greetings from ~Little Wing~
|

Booz’hoo, Family. Looks like summer has arrived and temperatures in Reche Canyon, California are nearing
100 degrees. As some of you know I have been doing lay-out work for a local Trenching Company and working
in La Quinta. La Quinta is Southern California desert. Last week wasn’t too bad but temperatures normally
exceed 115 degrees this time of year. Any way you look at it that is mighty hot!
I have also
been spending numerous hours on the web in search of grants for the Torres Martinez Tribe located at
Salton Sea. My Brother, Small Mountain is teaching the AITS (American Indian Trade Skills) program there.
My Son, Steven, just graduated from the second AITS class at the TM Rez. He also completed a 5 week
training course for the Laborer’s Union and is now working on the new Highway 86 project at Salton Sea.
We are all about 20 minutes from each other. Looks like we will all be desert rats, at least through
this summer. <:3 )~
Macho Ligai (Ken White Wolf) and I have been working on the Inter-Tribal-Voices
website. We needed a place to publish our ITV newsletters. (It is a group project and anyone who wishes
to add to the site may do so by contacting either Ken or myself.) Ken has worked very hard and done
a beautiful job on the ITV symbol. It is on the ITV webpage. Good job Ken!
Inter-Tribal-Voices
is now 30 members strong. As most of you know we call ourselves the Refugee’s of ONE. Not all of our
family came from ONE, but most of us have. I am so pleased to see our family share humor, wisdom, love,
spirituality, tradition, causes, ideas, thoughts. There is a high sense of honor and respect among members
of ITV. This is how it should be. I feel very honored and blessed to be united with wonderful family
and friends. The fire is warm and comforting.
I want to thank Spirit, Gary, LongKnife and FM
for sharing and keeping us up to date with important issues. I want to thank Gentle Sky for sharing
his teachings and Wah' Kon with us. I want to thank Ray and Jay for their silly humor and jokes. (We
miss Ray and hope he gets his computer replaced or fixed soon.) Of course, thanks to Ken White Wolf
for all of the time it took to create the new symbol. Thanks to all of our wonderful family for being
a voice. As a group we each contribute what we can.
Blessings, Peace and Love,
~Little
Wing~

Osiyo,
I'd like to welcome all to this fire of sharing and learning. This forum was created
so that all who wished, could have a voice. In the past we all have endured the limits that a few would
place on the many,to insure their point of view could be the only one invisioned.A few of us here encountered
this in the arena of Native American issues. We resolved this would not happen again, and formed this group.Any
organization of people must be based on a common interest and subject matter. However, few ideas or thoughts
exsist alone. All manner of things effect these concepts,or reflect on them.Too many would define the
extent of what may be discussed, and indeed then, what may be thought. For we as humans are communal, and
must exchange ideas and teaching, and experiences,in order to learn.Even those with the minority position
must be heard, otherwise the majority position has no real foundation, and does not serve the whole of
the group. If the environment is not open to that which is different or new, then it is not free. This not
to say we cannot make limits, but all must be heard and their ideas explored,as in the way of our ancestors. To
all that would speak before the fire,I say you will be heard. Welcome all.
Wadv,
Tsani LongKnife

Booz'hoo to all. I want to extend a warm welcome to all of the new memebers at Inter-Tribal-Voices.
I haven't been able to post much do to short deadlines, long hours and connection problems with my server.
As most of you know I am teaching classes, (The American Indian Trade Skills program) at the Torres
Martinez Reservation. The first class started on election day, Novemeber 3rd. The first day of class
was spent cleaning the classroom (since it had not been used in four or five years) and for getting
acquainted. After introductions we studied tool safety and math. Next we started drawing pictures on
the classroom wall, to scale, and then covered more safety and math. We fired up on some tools and built
a few benches. The pipe trades sent us a few instructors who talked about some aspects of their trades.
The students learned that math is an important part of most trades, as is safety and blue print reading.
Our goal when we designed this class was to get the students started on those skills that most trades
use. We wanted to introduce them to a little bit of each trade so they can make an educated choice when
it comes time to choose. Last but not least, we wanted to do all this in such a way that we honor our
Indian Traditions.
We did hurry things a little too much because the highway project came up
mighty quick. (Some of my students now have jobs on that highway project.) Others will continue training
by remodeling and building a new addition to the existing school. A new Religious Santuary will also
be built. I have several women who signed up for the course. They will be part of the construction
crew. These girls (referred to Al's Gal's) keep me on my toes. I have a hard time keeping up with them
on a good day.
We had a trade fair the last day of the first class, (January.) The second
class has now completed and awaiting Graduation Ceremonies. All in all (other than heat,) things have
gone fairly well. Now that the second class has ended it looks like I will be able to take that much
needed vacation. Utah here I come (with luck!)

A Word from the Inter-Tribal-Council
|

I-T-V has 4 Tribal Council Members, consisting of 2 men and 2 woman. The members of the Tribal Council
are LongKnife, Small Mountain, Paula Redhawk, and Little Wing. The purpose of the Tribal Council is
to intervene in the event that we have issues of concern among the group that need to be addressed on
a more personal level. Although we always take all matters before the family for a vote, sometimes it
becomes necessary to make decisions for the best interest of all members.
If you have any questions,
comments, suggestions, problems or issues that you do not feel comfortable posting to the group you may
contact the Tribal Council members personally or sent a post to ITV-Council-Members@Onelist.com.
