Chapter 8

by: Melissa

Lissa paced silently around the room Deirdre had showed her too. Sleep? Not quite. Her conversation with Angus had been running through her head all night. She felt bad for being so rude to him. He had only been trying to help. But his suggestion! It just wasn't possible. She had to admit, it was a good idea. Seeing her fight with the Mystic Knights would definitely have an effect on her sister….
Lissa shook her head. No. It just wasn't possible. She couldn't become attached to anyone here. And besides, what if they found out her secret…..
Lissa suddenly became aware of footsteps out in the hall. She stopped pacing. The steps were heavy, male, she guessed. She leapt carefully back in to the bed, gathering the covers around her and trying to breath normally. The footsteps entered her room. Who could it be? A spy for Mauve, maybe. She had heard her sister had spies all over the place. She listened in terror as the footsteps approached her bed. A shadow slid over her covers. A hand… Lissa bit her lip. If she was going to die, he was going to die with her. Gathering all her strength, she flipped in the bed and slammed her feet in to the stomach,or what she assumed was the stomach, of the intruder. He let out a yelp, and she heard him fall to the floor.
Thinking quickly, Lissa reached out and grabbed a candle, lighting it. She held it up….and gasped. "Angus! Oh…I'm so sorry!"
He looked up at her, clutching his stomach. He cleared his throat. "Its alright, Lissa. I shouldn't have snuck in here like that. How were you suppose to know."
Lissa knelt beside him. "No,really… Hey. What are you doing here, anyway? I thought you lived in that hut with Rohan.."
He smiled sheepishly. "Well..I do. But I felt bad about what happened, and couldn't sleep. I should not have tried to pressure you like that. I know you have a lot on your mind."
Lissa smiled and helped him to his feet. "Oh, Angus. Its quite okay. I shouldn't have been so rude. Your idea was a good one..it just isn't realistic."
He nodded, not wanting to argue with her anymore. Maybe tomorrow he could try. But for now… he brushed himself off. "Well. I'm glad you forgive me."
She laughed, trying to be quiet. "Of course. Your too nice to stay mad at, Angus."
He grinned. "Nice,eh? Wasn't exactly the word I was hopeing for, but it will do."
She raised an eyebrow. "And what word were you looking for?"
He smiled impishly, reminding Lissa of the fairies in her land after they had just done something mischievous. "Well….suave, debonairre…handsome.."
Lissa laughed, blushing this time. "Well, I'm not sure about suave and debonairre, but handsome. I think I could say that."
His eyes lit up. "Really. Well, princess, you aren't so bad yourself!"
Lissa's eyes widened. "Well. Stating the obvious again, I see."
He burst out laughing. She could hear a voice down the hall. "Lissa? Are you alright?"
It was Deirdre. Angus winked. "Go out there and keep her busy. I'll slip out and she'll never have known I was here."
Lissa nodded, slipping on her robe. "Okay. But hurry."
He nodded. As she passed he gently caught her arm. "Lissa?"
She looked up in to his eyes. "Yes?"
He looked slightly embarrassed. "Do you really think..that I'm.."
Lissa smiled sweetly. "Handsome? Angus, you are very handsome..no matter what Deirdre says."
He laughed. "I fight with her too much. I'm not sure why I do it.."
Lissa shrugged. "It is just the way you are,Angus. You don't like to listen to authority, even if you know its right. I'm the same way."
Lissa looked slightly unhapppy. "That is why I'm worried about being a queen someday."
Angus gently brushed a lock of her hair back. "You'll make a great queen. Heck, even I would listen to you."
Lissa giggled. "Thank you, Angus. That means a lot to me. Now, be off, before Deirdre decideds to make her way down here."
Deirdre was calling to her again. "Lissa! Are you well? Answer me!"
Lisa and Angus both stifled laughs. Lissa turned to walk to the door. She stopped. Then, she turned back, and soundlessly kissed him on the cheek. "See you in the morning, Angus."
She walked out. "Coming! Deirdre, I'm fine.."
Angus touched his cheek. Then, grinning like a madman, he slid out of the room and headed out.
