The Daniel Bernoulli Project

Daniel Bernoulli invented the mathematics of flight. The Bernoulli principle states the faster air flows, the less pressure it exerts.

Statement of Need:

These five lessons illustrate the basic principles underlying flight and Bernoulli's Principle.

These five lessons are a Science Seven Grade Instructional Unit to assist middle school teachers to cover main concepts needed to pass the Illinois State Learning Standards, the ISAT test, the IGAP test and the District 300 Local Assessment.

This unit was written by examining a list of required subjects listed in the IGAP, the Illinois Learning Standards, The CMS's School Improvement Team, The Science Curriculum Team and the current science textbooks.

All schools in District 300 are site-based managed. This process ensures that teachers, parents and community help all learners reach their highest levels of achievement and become productive members of society.

Illinois School District 300 serves 13,000 students through the following communities: Algonquin, Carpentersville, Lake in the Hills, East Dundee, West Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Hampshire, Gilberts, and portions of Elgin, Barrington, Cary and Pingree Grove. There are three high schools, 3 middle schools, and 12 elementary schools.

Goals: It is to be hoped students will gain a fundamental understanding of the Bernoulli principle, air pressure, aerodynamics and the principle of the wing.
