Introduction/Overview
Needs Assessment
This on-line curriculum project is being developed to meet the growing technological advances of our time. Vast amounts of information are published on the internet. Educators are able to integrate these technological advances into the classroom curricula. There is a great need to search for knowledge as we are living in the age of information. The information also needs to be fast, efficient, and easily assessable. The computer has been a great tool in meetings these needs. Everything from research, shopping, news, games, etc. is provided on the internet. This curriculum project can serve as a resource for teachers as well as for students. Hopefully, it will foster the intellectual growth of those who use it.
My project is a interdisciplinary unit on money. It is designed to give a holistic picture of the purpose and uses of money. It gives students the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning and also encourages self directed learning. This lesson is primarily rooted in mathematics, but also branches out to social studies and language arts.
This unit is based on the philosophy
that students need to be actively engaged in the learning process.
The implication is that students are the focus of the classroom and teachers
are there to direct the students. Therefore, students need to take
initiative for their own learning.
Goals
The goal of this project is to enhance student learning strategies. Through this project, students will be able to use critical thinking skills to connect the experiences of this unit to previous knowledge. Some specific goals are that:
