~Let's Dance On - Part 1~

SUMMER OF 1990…

"Mornin'." Mike yawned drawing Laura closer and nuzzling her neck.

"If you had told me two days ago that I would be waking up in your arms today, I wouldn't have believed you." She smiled.

"Me either." He chuckled. "But I can't think of any place I'd rather be." He kissed her deeply.

"We better get up." She pulled away apprehensively. "Today is the picnic at Micky and Madison's house."

"Maddie throws this picnic every year. It's her never-ending attempt to get the band back together." He got out of bed. "We keep telling her it isn't going to happen, but she's relentless."

"I think it’s a wonderful idea!" Laura exclaimed.

"Oh no, don't you start." Mike laughed. "The Monkees are a thing of the past and that's exactly where they should stay.

She slipped into a robe. "You're just being stubborn."

"Maybe I am." He walked to her and placed his hands on her hips. "But you love me anyway."

She giggled wrapping her arms around his neck. "Yes I do. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying to talk you into this."

"Ya know, I think you and Maddie are going to be great friends."

The tables were set, the food prepared and nature was delivering a perfect day. "Doll, what is this?" Micky asked, holding up a guitar.

"It’s a guitar." She giggled, trying to look innocent.

"I know it’s a guitar." He rolled his eyes. "What's it doing out?"

"I thought maybe someone would be inspired to play, which would, in turn, inspire others to sing." She walked over to him, took the guitar out of his hands and placed it back on the stand.

"We go through this every year. The band is not getting back together." He gave a frustrated sigh.

"Did I say anything about the band getting back together?" Again, she gave him the total innocent look.

"You didn't have to." He walked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. "Look, I think its great that we have this picnic once a year and that we can all get together like a family. But the four of us are never going to play together again. It's been too many years and too much has happened between us. The only reason Peter and Michael agree to come here and be in the same house together is because they are afraid of you." He smiled and then kissed her forehead. "Just don't push today, let's just have a good time."

"I have no intention of pushing." She gave him a sly smile and walked away.

Micky shook his head and wagged his finger at her. "What are you up to?"

"Me, up to something? I have no idea what you are talking about." She laughed.

"Great party, Maddie." Laura comments with a smile.

"Thanks!" Madison smiled. "I'm so happy that things working out for you and Michael."

"Me too." She beamed. "Michael said you throw this party every year hoping the band will get back together."

"Guilty." Madison admitted. "Not that's it done any good."

"Well, I think it's an excellent idea. Anything I can do to help?"

Madison got a devilish look in her eyes. "Well, now that you mention it…"
