~You & I - Part 4~

When they arrived back at Micky's house they found a roaring fire in the fireplace, a blanket spread out in front of it and a bottle of chilled champagne along with two glasses; all compliments of Ami. Unfortunately, Micky and Emily hadn’t said a word to each other since they had left the club.

“Michael, we have to talk about this.” Emily kicked off her shoes and sat down on the couch.

Micky started to open the bottle of champagne and then opted for a double scotch instead. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.”

“I didn’t think there was a reason to tell you.” Her voice was raised.

“How serious was it?” He took a drink.

“We talked about getting married.” She answered softly.

“You were engaged to him?!”

“I said we talked about it.” She shot back. “It didn’t work out.”

“If I had been engaged to one of your friends, I would have told you.” He finished his drink.

“Damn it, Michael, we were not engaged.” She stood and walked over to him. “You have nothing to be jealous about.”

“I am not jealous!” He poured himself another drink. “I’m angry. There’s a difference.”

“Fine, you’re angry.” She threw up her hands. “What do you want me to say?”

“I don’t know.” He sighed. “You’re the one who didn’t want us keeping any secrets but then you do.”

“I wasn’t keeping it from you. It just didn’t come up until now.” She yelled.

“So you only told me because you didn’t have a choice!” He yelled back.

“That’s not what I meant and you know it. I’m sure I don’t know about everyone in your past.” She paced.

“No, probably not. But you know about the important ones. It seems to me James was important in your life but you didn’t want to tell me.” He slammed down the rest of his drink.

“I give up!” She walked towards the stairs. “I’m going to bed.”

“Fine!” He watched her go up the stairs and then heard the bedroom door slam.

Emily woke up early the next morning alone. She packed her bags and called a cab. She ran into Charles on her way out. “Are you leaving, ma’am?”

“Yes, Charles. Thank you for everything.” She gave him a small smile.

“Mr. Dolenz is sleeping in the guest room. Would you like me to wake him?” He carried her bags outside to the cab.

“Please don’t.” Her voice cracked. She got into the cab and told the driver to take her to the airport.
