~You and I - Part 5~

The phone was ringing when Emily walked into her apartment back in Chicago. She ran to answer it hoping it was Micky. “Hello!”

“Hey blue eyes.” James said surprised. “I didn’t think you’d be home yet. I was going to leave a message on your machine.”

“I had to come home unexpectedly.” She was disappointed but tried not to let it show in her voice. “What’s up, Jimmy?”

“I just wanted to tell you how good it was seeing you again.” He said sincerely.

“It was good to see you too.” Emily couldn’t help but smile. She and James had remained good friends after they had broken up. They hardly ever saw each other but they made an effort to talk on the phone at least once a month.

“You want to tell me what’s wrong?” He asked.

“What makes you think there’s anything wrong?” She retorted.

“He did?” She said softly.

“I can’t believe you left without telling him.” He replied.

“What was I supposed to do?” She raised her voice. “Stay there and fight it out with him.”

“Yes!” James exclaimed. “That’s what you do when you love someone. You love him, don’t you?”

“Yes, of course I do.” She sighed.

“Then fight for him.” He said simply.

Emily was quiet for a moment. “You’re right.” She smiled. “Thank you, Jimmy. What did I ever do to lose you?”

“You didn’t fight for me.” He sighed. “Don’t make the same mistake twice.”

Micky was relieved when James called and told him that Emily was back home in Chicago. He also knew he had to go to her and bring her back. It didn’t matter what was in her past. He loved her and the present was all that did matter. He finished packing his suitcase and when he turned around, Emily was standing in the doorway.
