~You & I~

Chapter 7

The sun was shining in the blue sky on September 1st. of that year. It was also shining in Davy's and Allison's hearts as they came out of St. Mark's Church where the wedding had been celebrated. There were a lot of fans waiting in front of the church and the official photographer of the wedding was not the only one taking pictures. The young couple walked between two rows of policemen to their limousine and then guards escorted the bridal procession all the way to the hotel where the reception was taking place.

The meal took more than two hours as there were five servings and a lot of guests. Nicole was sitting with Allison's family. Micky, Mike and Peter were with Davy's family at a table near the one where Nicole was. The young woman avoided looking in that direction and seemed to be very attentive to what people around her were saying, but she was painfully aware of Micky's presence. She had seen him at church, and saw that he was more handsome than ever. A beautiful blonde accompanied him. Nicole's escort was a cousin of Allison's. His name was Miles. He was not bad looking, courteous but somewhat ordinary. Anyway, he was not the type Nicole would fall for. The fact was she hadn't completely gotten over Micky yet, even if she didn't want to admit it. Then came the time to dance. Nicole danced with Miles, then with Charles, Logan and Richard, Allison's brothers. Finally after three hours of dancing, she went out for some fresh air. The evening breeze was cool and she tightened her shawl around her shoulders. Miles came after her.

- What are you doing out here?

- Just breathing some fresh air. After all that dancing, I was beginning to feel hot.

- Not hot enough for me!

- What do you mean?

- You've been very polite, but cold with me.

- Miles, I've known you for two days now, what do you expect from me?

He came neared and she noticed he had been drinking a little too much.

- What I expect from you? A little understanding.

- Miles! I feel a little cold, now. Maybe we should go in.

- If you're cold, I can warm you up.

- Miles, no!

He tried to take her in his arms. She backed away from him and said:

- What's the letter you don't understand in the word "no"?

- I don't take "no" for an answer.

He reached out for her and held her tight against him.

- I know a charming little motel where I can make you change your mind.

- She said NO!

A masculine voice had come from behind them. They turned around to face... Micky! Miles answered:

- Mind your ow business, Dolenz! With all the girls you've gone to bed with, you don't have anything to say!

- Yes, I do: when a girl says "no" to me, I don't insist.

- Well, now clear out!

Micky pushed Miles in a corner, and told him:

- If you don't leave that young lady alone, I'll punch you in the mouth.

Miles tried to hit Micky, but drunk as he was, he didn't move fast enough. Micky hit Miles' jaw with his fist, and knocked him out. Then, he turned to Nicole:

- Call a cab. I think the party's over for him.

Nicole went inside, called a taxi, then asked Allison's brother the address of his cousin.

- Why?

- Because he doesn't feel well at all. I think he drank too much.

When the taxi arrived, Charles put Miles in it, gave the driver the address of his cousin and money to pay the ride. Miles was awake now, but he didn't say anything, his head hurt too much... And so did his pride!
