Chapter 8
Micky walked to Nicole. She said:
- Thank you.
- That's the least I could do for an old... friend.
The word "friend" touched Nicole's heart. She retorted:
- Well, I don't want to keep you. Your escort must be waiting for you.
- That would surprise me. She's gone.
- What?
- Yeah, she had warned me she couldn't stay long. She's going on a trip tomorrow, so she has to pack.
- Too bad!
- I don't think so.
Nicole looked at him, a questioning look in her eyes. Micky said:
- I can spend the end of the evening with you!
- You haven't changed a bit! At least, before, there was one girl at a time. Now the score is higher, two in the same evening. She turned he back on him, but he grabbed her arm:
- You're misinterpreting my words. Wendy was not my girlfriend, she was just a friend who accepted to accompany me at Davy's wedding. And I'm happy to see you again. Now, may I have this dance?
Nicole smiled and nodded. The dance was a slow. Hugged tightly in Micky's arms, Nicole felt her heart pounding so hard she thought he would hear it. Oh no, she hadn't forgotten him at all. She realized she was still in love with him, and she didn't know if she should rejoice or deplore the fact. When the dance was over, Micky took her by the hand and said:
- There are a lot of things that I've wanted to tell you for a long time, now. When you left, I looked for you. Allison told me why you ran away. I've felt sorrier than I've ever felt in my life. Brenda meant nothing to me and I lost you for a single night with her. I understood what real love was. I wanted to tell you but Allison wouldn't tell me where you were.
- She had promised me not to tell you.
- I know that! You really didn't want to see me again?
- I didn't want to suffer again. I loved you but you only wanted a good time with girls and I couldn't give you what you wanted.
- You know, since you left me, I felt less and less interested in one-night stands. I wanted to know real love and I couldn't forget you. When Davy told me Allison and he were getting married, and that I was invited, I felt hope rising in me. I was sure Allison would invite you and that we would meet again.
- And what if I had somebody else in my life?
- Not Miles, that's for sure.
- Not Miles, but maybe somebody else?
- Then, where is he?
- He couldn't come.
- I see.
When Nicole saw the hurt in Micky's eyes, she couldn't stand it and quickly told him the truth:
- There's nobody else.
Instantly, the hurt disappeared from Micky's eyes, and all Nicole could see in those beloved almond-shaped eyes, was love; real genuine love! Micky retaliated:
- I'll see that it stays that way.
- How?
- Simple. Will you marry me?
Nicole couldn't believe he had said those words. She looked at him, speechless. He repeated:
- Will you marry me?
- I will.
He took her in his arms and kissed her. Then, he took her hand and asked her:
- How about telling Davy and Allison that when they come back from their honeymoon, they're invited to a wedding?
THE END!
