Chapter 4
On the morning after, Davy, Micky, Mike and Peter offered Rebecca to stay with them, until her majority. They would keep her hidden in their house and in return, she would share the chores with them. The young girl protested a bit as a matter of form ("I don't want to get you into trouble, etc.") but she was very happy with their proposition; she felt secure with them. She would do the chores so rapidly that she hardly left them anything to do. She would never go out, obviously, but she felt so peaceful in that house. And she liked the four boys very much. Peter was very nice, good-hearted, trying to help her anytime he could. Mike was the "serious" one; his presence and his calm were reassuring. Davy was always complimenting her, courting her in a charming way that made her smile, but she didn't take it seriously as he was doing the same with every girl he met. Besides, she secretly loved Micky; everything in him pleased her: he was so handsome, sexy, funny, and such a nice person always ready to listen when she felt like talking and making her laugh when she was getting sad. She felt blessed to live here with those wonderful fellows but there were two things that worried her: first she feared that her stepmother and her lover would find her; second, she wondered what were Micky's feelings about her. When she'd be 21, would she have to go and forget him, or would he try to hold her back and keep her with him?
