'TIS THE SEASON FOR TV

by: Ruby Tuesday

"Christmas, Christmas time is here….", are the immortal words of one of the greatest poets of our time, Alvin of the super group, Alvin and the Chipmunks. Yes, yes, it is the time of year that every one loves/dreads, its Christmas/Chanukah/Kwansa. Time for laughter, time for cheer, time for TV. Some people may complain that the holiday shows are only Christmas based, but no on ever really ever tries to steal Chanukah. Therefore the jolly elves can't save it, and that is the basic Christmas show so where is the plot in a Chanukah TV show? So with this in mind, I will now reminisce about my favorite TV shows, holiday style.

What would an article about Christmas be without the family show of all family shows, The Brady Bunch? Who could forget the selflessness of Cindy Brady, whom we all know, really wanted a new dress for Kitty Karry All, asked from Santa her only Christmas wish was to have her mother's voice back so she could sing in church? Little Cindy of course got her wish, because it just wouldn't be right if Carol couldn't give her gift of song. But this is not the only time that song has been incorporated into the Brady Bunch's Christmas. In the early 90s the Bradys reunited for "A Very Brady Christmas Special". In this made for TV movie one of Mike Brady's wonderful architectural designs collapsed with him inside it! When the Brady Bunch heard about this, they all ran down town and sang carols, which miraculously saved Mike from entrapment!

Then there is my all time fave show, The Wonder Years. Who could forget when Kevin Arnold found out that the seemingly tough, yet suprisingly odd Coach Kutlip was Santa at the mall? And there is also the ever-popular Full House when they got caught at the airport in the snow. It seemed like all hope was gone, but of course Santa came through, despite Stephanie and Michelle's fears that he wouldn't find them if they weren't in San Francisco. Also we must always have Eddie Murphy in S.N.L.'s "Gumby's Christmas Special", with guests Donny and Marie Osmond.

I hope you have enjoyed this little trip down TV memory lane as much as I have. Toodles TVLanders.
