Museum Letter
Read the following letter and be prepared to discuss ideas in class.

Dear Teacher and Students:

We, at the Anytown Museum, with thanks to an anonymous and generous donor, have the opportunity to create an exhibit of the greatest American inventors of the 20th century.  We are struggling through the process to identify these influential individuals, and we realize the many resources within our community at large.  The students at your school, we feel, are one of the fine resources that could assist us to meet this challenge.

Specifically we would like to request your help to select an influential American group of inventors whose impact has led to the greatest positive influence on the society within the last century.  Please keep in mind that we would like a variety of representation from  all types of individuals.  We would like you to challenge your research skills by:

We require that each student organize each step of the research process in a folder using the BIG SIX RESEARCH GUIDELINES.  Once all the data has been collected by your class, the students should decide on the five most influential inventors from those they have researched.  In addition, each student should be prepared to use persuasion techniques during the final class selection process and to debate the significance of their inventor to the class.

We appreciate your interest with this endeavor.  Feel free to explore the INVENTORS/INVENTIONS WEBSITES. We realize that the activities that we have listed may be a bit challenging.  However, we are confident that you can use your skills and ideas together as a class to create a unique exhibit in our museum.  We look forward to hearing your ideas soon.  Good luck.

Sincerely,

The Staff at the Anytown Museum
