Chapter 42 - So hold onto the ones who really care

You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You're going through all this pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast
And they're gone so fast
So hold on the ones who really care
In the end they'll be the only ones there
When you get old and start losing your hair
Can you tell me who will still care
Can you tell me who will still care

Taylor picked up the torn piece of paper. He felt torn himself. If this was what she wanted...he'd do it. It would make her happy. Taylor knew that wasn't what she really wanted. He'd seen it in her eyes...she still loved him; there was a reason for this.

She was being forced into it, that was the only possibility. Taylor stared at the digits sprawled across the paper. He sighed. May as well get it over with, he thought.

After a few minutes, he slowly reached over and picked up the cordless phone, and dialed the number carefully. He silently prayed that no one would pick up. That it was a wrong number, that it was no longer in service.....

"Hello? Hello...anyone there?"

Taylor swallowed hard. "Hi...is Amber there?"

"Hey Ike..." Jenn said, breaking the gap in their silence during a re-run of Friends.

"Yeah?" He asked, not taking his eyes off the TV. He seemed mesmerized by Phoebe's performance of 'Smelly Cat'.

"Um...do you remember Rachel?" Jenn asked.

"Yep, why?" Ike glanced sideways.

"Well....I was thinking...we never actually acted on my plan. Revenge....she kind of deserves it you know," Jenn said slowly.

"You mean...you really want to do it?" Ike gave her his full attention.

"Yeah. Why not?"

"I can't think of one good reason not to except that it is kind of cruel Jenn," Ike looked undecided.

"So? What's wrong with that?"

"Good point. Okay, I'm in."

Jenn leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. then she stretched out on the couch with her head in his lap. "Anyone that tries to take you away from me is marching through bad territory. Obsessive fans are okay, but not when it gets personal."

"Ugh...my girlfriend protects me. Don't tell the tabloids," Ike said jokingly.

"Yep...maybe I should get paid for this, sinch I'm doing Alec's job," Jenn told him, almost seriously, before she cracked a smile.

"Alec wouldn't be too happy about that," Ike informed her. Alec was his personal bodyguard.

"Well how do I know that he isn't getting pleasure from his job? I mean with all those girls that follow you around all the time...some of them aren't that young and sometimes that might turn him on...he could get distracted...."

"Jenn--" Ike began, but was soon cut off.

"I've decided then. I'll be your new bodyguard!" She wasn't serious though, but went on. "I know kickboxing and stuff....I can really kick some teenybopper butts! Alec is out of the job....I really think that those cute teenies are getting to his testosterone----"

"Jenn!"

"What?" She stopped midsentence.

"Alec is gay." Ike rolled his eyes.

"Oh."

Ike laughed. Jenn seemed disappointed that her theory of Alec's softness towards teenies wasn't true.

"I don't think that those female fans are going to distract him....although, I may be a bit worried about the male roadies...." Ike pretended to be deep in thought.

"Well I knew he was gay anyway. It's so obvious." Jenn told him knowingly.

"Oh really?"

"Yeah...those tight leather pants, the ponytail....."

"Hey!" Ike folded his arms. "Don't make fun of Hanson!"

"Oh.....I get it. Tight leather pants, ponytails..." She laughed. "I certainly hope you're not gay." Jenn turned over so that the back of her head rested in his lap, and she was looking up towards his chin.

Ike bent down and kissed her lips tenderly. "I don't think that's possible....."

"You're right..." Jenn kissed him back as his tongue filled her mouth. Slowly she pulled away, licking his lips. "The sex is too amazing."

"I agree...." He slid his hand up her shirt. Soon they were deeply unaware that they weren't alone in the house.

Zac walked in. He plunked down on the over-stuffed chair and changed the channel to a Bulls game. "Aw....." he glanced over disgustedly at the two. "Get a room!"

Reluctantly Ike and Jenn parted and sat up.

"Man..." Zac changed the channel back to Friends. "I can't stand to watch a Bulls game....they really suck without Jordan."

"No shit," Ike mumbled, still annoyed at being interrupted just when things were starting to get heated up. Sometimes he just wished that he could tell all those annoying talk show hosts what the Hanson brothers were really like.

Taylor gulped. Amber's shriek of delight caused him to jerk away from the phone.

"Oh my gosh! Taylor?!" Amber was overjoyed.

"Yeah.......uh I was wondering--"

"Taylor! Taylor HANSON! No way! I mean like, I was totally hoping that you would call....like, my mom said like, that she heard that you liked me and like, I was like, 'oh my gosh no way!' Amber's way of speaking made Taylor cringe.

He gritted his teeth and went on. "....anyway, as I was SAYING," he paused, "maybe you and I could go out somewhere, like to a movie or---"

"YES!! I knew it!! Taylor...I knew you'd come around. Even though that night at my party, I just walked up to you and kissed you, like, I knew that we both felt that special magic. I just knew it!"

Taylor could almost feel Amber swelling with pride through the phoneline. This is for Alexandra.....he thought, soon Amber will find someone else to torment and then I'll see Alex again...

That was all he had to hold on to.
