New Nightmare 2
Scene 8

CUT 

Davis, with his hands rapped where they had been burned in the dream,
is walking out of the front of the school, along the side of a 
gurney that a pair of paramedics are taking out to their ambulance.
They are not in a hurry as their patient has long since been dead.

Around them, majority of the students are standing in front of the 
school.  Some have already left.  The Principal speaks over the 
intercom.

Principal
Because of grave situations 
today, school is dismissed 
until tomorrow morning.

Candy is running up the street towards the scene at the school,
and she is nearly pulling him.

Close up of her face, as tears are streaming down her face.

Candy is running around to the back of the ambulance as it is
pulling away.  She looks at it, feeling as though she has missed
a chance to help her, and now didn't know what to do.  Josh is 
behind her, not sure what to do.  He doesn't know what he is 
doing there.  She had dragged him the whole way there, and now
he stands outside he school.

David watches as the ambulance pulls away, and then falls back, 
hard onto his ass on the curb.  

Josh
What's going on?

David puts his heads in his hands, and Candy turns her back on 
Josh and walks to the school a few steps.  Then she turns and
starts back.  She continues to pace like this, frustrated and
nervous.

CUT

Open on a picture of father and son.  Wes Craven on a fishing
trip with his fictitious son Josh.  The shot opens up to Josh's
bedroom, to see Josh holding Candy on the bed.  David is 
sitting in a chair by Josh's computer desk.  

Josh
I know that you have been
through a lot Candy, but
Freddy Krueger does not
exist.  I know that more
than anybody.

David
It was real.  I was there.

Candy
He saved me.

Josh
Yeah, well if he was really
there, then why in the hell
didn't he save Tina?

Looks to David

Josh
David, I know you love horror
movies.  I can understand
why in a moment of grief you
would turn to horror movies
for comfort, but please do
not take my girlfried down 
that same road.

Davis is torn.  He wishes he could get his friend to believe 
them.  He looks to Candy, pleading with her to try harder,
that maybe she would be able to persuade him more.

Candy
Josh?  You haven't dreamed
of Freddy lately have you.

Josh
My dad created Freddy Krueger.
What do you think.  I have 
always known Robert Englund
and seen him in and out of his 
make-up.  

David
You have been having some
nightmares haven't you.

Josh-raising his voice calmly
David.  HE IS NOT REAL.
Understand.

The phone rings in the next room.  Josh stands and moves into the next
room.  Candy sits there on the bed, quietlly, looking down at her 
hands.  

David sits in the chair, looking around the room.  Admiring all the 
pictures, but loathing them in the same breath.  As in the rooms
there are pictures of Wes, Josh and Robert(in makeup) hanging on 
the walls.  As well as pictures of stills from some of the movies.

David and Candy both look up at Josh when he comes back in the room.
Josh is shocked, and all the color is out of his face.  Tears are
at the corner of his eyes.  Josh has just found out about Heather
being killed as well as the news that Robert is currently missing.

Josh
That was John Saxon.  He
was looking for my dad,
but I took a message.

Candy
Josh, what's wrong?

Josh
Heather Leagenkamp and her
son, Dillion.  They were 
both found brutally slain
in their home.

Candy
Oh my, Do the police have
any ideas?

Josh stands there, speechless, looking Candy, trying to give
an answer, but can't.  Robert Englund is the suspect, because
he currently can't be found, and no one has the slightest 
idea where he is at.  

David notices Josh, flustered.

David
They do, don't they?

Josh
They think it's Robert.

Candy
Robert who?

David
Robert Englund

Josh nods.

Josh
He's missing.  

David
Is that the only reason

Josh
No, they were killed by 
razor sharp blades.  Like 
the ones Freddy uses.

David
Now will you listen?

Josh
Shut up David!  Just Shut
up.  A friend of my family
has just been killed with
her son, and another friend
of my family is missing.  I
I...

Candy breaks out into a fit of tears.

Candy
You bastard!

Josh loses his anger at David and looks at Candy, at first he
is lost at what he did.  Then he remembers, and starts to 
move towards her to comfort her.  He sits on the bed and trys
to scoot closer to her, but she puts her arm out to keep him
away.  Josh backs away.  

Everything becomes very still, as if no one knows what to say
to calm each other.  

Josh
My family is gone for 
awhile.  If either of you
want to stay the night.

David
We can keep each other up
then.

Josh gives David an evil look.

Josh
If that makes both of you
happy, thats fine.  Me, I
need to get some sleep 
tonight before I go nuts.
