Roadside Assistance Scene 16-20 Revised 2/11/00 16. Ext. On Ramp from Harlem to 290. Minutes later. The truck turns off of Harlem to get onto 290 towards Chicago. 290 is packed The truck moves into a small line of traffic that isn't moving. He is in the left lane. Up ahead there are emergency lights flashing around an accident. 16.b. Ext. Annette's car, simultaneous Annette is in her car with her husband, Cameron. She is watching more of the world around her, and not caring about her husband next to him. It seems as though she is trying to avoid him. She sees the Black Truck slow into traffic near her. She turns to Cameron. Annette Hey, that's Adam's truck. Cameron So? Annette Well, I can ask him if he will work for me this Saturday. That way we can go to that wedding. He always needs the extra hours. 16.c. Ext. The Accident, simultaneous Close-up of the flashing red light of the emergency workers. A shot of a police officer with a slight low angle to him with the flashing red light coming on and off his face and uniform. He is directing traffic through the right of the road. The cars are not seen, but he is using his hands in the motion. There are a few officers standing off on the shoulder of the road, enjoying the nicotene of a cigarette as it pollutes their lungs. They are out of the light from all the problems going on around them, and they are standing out from under any traffic lights. Behind them in the long line of cars, The Truck can be seen about five cars back. It is slowly starting to move out of it's lane and onto the shoulder turning off it's lights as it is doing this, and turning on it's hazards. It makes it all of the way onto the shoulder and about ten feet, when one of the cops point to it. Through the lights of the truckand the front windshield of the truck-from the Dark One's Pov, as it accelerates forward, the three cops do different things. One reaches for his side arm, another one stands there frozen in panic, and the third one trys to jump the barrier to the other side of 290. The camera quickly moves into a close up with the light illuminating the frozen's face. He is trying to scream but nothing comes out. The side of the truck. Blood is dripping off of the front of the grill to the sides, and just kind of flying out, away from the truck. The truck is beyond the accident speeding away, blood spattered along the front of the truck. The truck pulls back onto the road with the accident in the background. There is a scurry of activity as everyone at the accident is in a mix between going to help the three cops or trying to stop the truck from fleeing. The truck speeds away to towards the now nearly deserted 290 towards the city. More of a close up of the blood splattered truck to skew the sight of the accident. END OF SCENE 16 17. Downtown Chicago, minutes later-now nearing midnight. The truck crosses over the bridge onto Congress. It continues down to Wabash, and then turns right. It comes to a stop at Harrison. Then it makes a left. At Michigan, The truck sits there while a few people are crossing. The light turns green. There is one person, who trys to make it in a rush across the street before traffic would move. As he is crossing in front of the truck, it lurches foward into it's left turn, hitting the man. He is flung off to the side of the road, rolling away. The truck starts to shoot up Michigan, accelerating. Side shot of the truck as it continues to accelerate. It flies through red lights. The camera starts to shoot the road , looking straight down from the tailgate of the truck. The red lights of the rear end of the truck light this space behind here, and their is also light from numerous streetlights. On the road there is a streak of red blood, and occasionly, seconds after a thump is heard there is a splatter of blood on the road. A long shot of Michigan Ave. The streetlights, red, as the truck moves through them. Into the distance of the shot. Close up of the read end light of the truck. It brightens as The Dark One puts on the brake. END OF SCENE 17 18. Car Wash, Near Dawn. The far off red light on the horizen, with the truck in the foreground, near the car wash. Under the front end of the truck, there is a puddle of blood. It continues to drip down. into the puddle. The truck moves into the car wash. Close up of the head of one of the sprayers, as it turns on. END OF SCENE 18 19. Int. Adam's Apartment. Minutes later Close up of a Shower Head. The camera pulls back to Adam's face. He is basking in the hot water as it sprays upon his face. Half an hour later he is fully dressed in his uniform, and is grabing a piece of toast from the toaster, as he is pulling on his coat, ready to head out of the door. END OF SCENE 19 20. Ext. Ouside Adam's Work, Near eight. Adam is rushing inside of the building. 20.b. Int. Front End, minutes later Adam walks in and rushes past Annette. She gives him a questioning look. She doesn't really believe that he did it, but she wants to find out. 20.c. Int. Break Room, minutes later Adam is standing in front of the mirror putting on his name tag, and making sure evrerything looks right when Annette comes bursting in. Annette I have to ask you something? Adam What? Annette What were you doing last night? Adam What do you care? Annette What in the hell did you do. Tell me? Adam Not like it's any of your concern, but I was home last night on the fuckin' computer. Now, unlike some people I have to work around here. Adam brushes past Annette, out of the break room. END OF SCENE 20 Scene 21-25
