Roadside Assistance Scene 11-15 Revised 2/11/00 11. Int. Inside the truck, Minutes later. The road in front of Adam as he is pulling into a large parking lot in the Cermak Plaza. On the news cast from his radio the reporter speaks about the last night killing spree. Reporter And last night there were three hit and runs. Only two of these can be linked together, however some officers seem to believe that there might be a link to the third. There is still no evidence. More to come on tonights seven O' clock news. Adam puts his truck in first gear and turns of the engine. Then he gets out, locking the door behind him. He hurries inside to the his job. END OF SCENE 11 Time Lapse Photography of clouds in the sky, Cars on various roads, people crossing the street. 12. Int. Inside Department Store, throughout the day Adam stands at the door greeting the customers as they come in and as they are going out. He also answers their questions, and tries to keep his smile. Adam Pencil Sharpeners, they'll be in aisle 11..., Computers, they're in aisle 7..., Safes, you can find those in aisle 16. under his breath You Asshole. Adam watches as the snobbish woman starts to walk away. He looks over at the man behind the customer service counter. Adam I have got to find myself a better job. John (mgr) Why? What's up? Adam I need to get away from customers. Maybe a dishwashing job. At least then I don't have to be nice to everyone. John Yeah, and free showers. Just instead of water you get a shower in food. You really want that? Adam Hell, I need to do something more. Shit, this job is just to damn easy. John Hey, keep it down. A woman on a cell phone is on the way out of the door, talking away on her cell phone. Woman on Cellphone Yeah, I'll be there in ten minutes .... Well I would be there sooner, but traffic on 290 will be impossible. ........ Hey, nothing can be done, I'll be there as soon as I can. Adam Have a nice day. She nods as she is already more than half way out of the door walking fast. As soon as the door close behind her Adam turns back to look at John behind the desk. Adam You ever been stuck on 290? John Not to often. It's usually pretty clear when I am on it. Adam Your lucky. I've been on it at times that I thought I had parked my car in a parking lot. John urrgh Adam Yeah, I can't stand that shit. John I've warned you once Adam Hell, your driving on 290, and then you have to slam on your brakes and try to avoid the person in front of you. All because your stuck in a traffic jam. Have you ever wondered how they start? John How what starts? Adam Traffic Jams. John Too many people trying to take on road at once. Adam Yeah, well I like to imagine it as three old ladies taking up all three lanes, taking their slow read end of a time, and just holding everyone else up. John That's one messed up way at looking at it. Adam Yeah, and I would like to do nothing else, but to just move them out of my way. John starts to ring customer 1 up on the register. Customer 2 walks up to Adam. Customer 2 is Officer 1, Officer 2 is behind him. Adam Can I help you with something? Customer 2 Yeah, can you check me out? Adam glances at John to see if he might be long with his customer. John has a large amount of items he is ringing out for that customer. Adam starts to walk over to his register. Adam looks at the screen. Adam Your total is seven hundred eighty seven, out of a check, ok. Can I see your driver's license. Customer 2 How about this? He flashes his star badge. Adam, kind of laughing. Adam Nope. Customer 2 Okay, then I guess you'll have to take the check then. Customer 2 pulls out his license from his wallet Adam hunches over the counter, copying the driver's license number. He raises back up, and goes to run the check through the machine. The camera moves up to Adam's face as he waits for the machine. There is a buzz, and he looks back down. Adam I'm sorry sir, but it's saying that you don't have enough money in your checking account. Customer 2 Your shittin' me right. Adam No sir. Customer 2 Try it again. Adam Sir, it won't take your check, it's not the machine, it's in the system that there is not enough in the bank to cover it. Customer 2 That's impossible, I just put some money in there yesterday, I want to speak to your manager. Adam looks up, and motions for John in a nodding head motion. Adam John, can you come over here for a minute John punches a few buttons, and then steps away from the register at the service desk, and walks out of it. John joins next to Adam. John What's the problem here? Adam This man here, he paid by check, but they refused it. John looks at the check and looks over the system. He slightly moves Adam off to the side, as he runs through the previous steps that Adam had gone through. John Sir, I can't take this check. Customer 2 That's Bullshit. There is more than enough money in there. John Is there another way you can pay for this? Customer 2 I shouldn't need another form of payment. John I'm sorry, but there is nothing else I can do. Customer 2-Officer 1 is deep in thought, perplexing as he tries to think of a way to pay for the merchandise Customer 2 Is there a cash machine in here? John No, but there is one next door in the grocery store. Customer 2 I'll be back. Keep this stuff for me. Customer 2 walks away, out the front door. As soon as he is away John wheels on Adam John You had better of done everything right. You did, didn't you? Adam Of course. John punches a few buttons on the keyboard, and then walks away to his service desk. The camera moves around to a front shot of Adam watching John as he is starting to ring up another customer. The customer is not seen, but Adam is ringing up items. He doesn't look away, only at John as he mutters Adam dickhead. FADE TO BLACK END OF SCENE 12 SCENE 13 DELETED END OF SCENE 13 14. Int. Inside Adam's Apartment, Simultaneous Adam is reaching back from turning on the light, and settles down into his chair in front of the computer. He pulls of the clothes that are scattered on top of it, and throw them into the pile in the center of the room. Then he turns the power onto the computer. "You've got mail' chimes and within a few clicks he is multi windowed into a chat room and mail. He is leaning back into his chair, speaking in the mike, talking to one girl while typing to another. He grabs the mike, and leans back, rocking in his chair with it. Adam And I would caress your breasts with my tongue. While my hand would make you feel ecstacy. There is a chime as though from icq. He leans back forward, setting down the mike to type. The camera starts to pan onto the chatroom which has a black background. The camera zooms in on the blackness. END OF SCENE 14 15. Ext. Outside Adam's Apartment, Simultaneous FADE IN as he climbs into the back of the truck, and reaches through the rear window. The Dark One jumps out of the truck and then opens the door. Then the truck is slowly pulling out of the parking lot, driving towards Harlem. END OF SCENE 15 Scenes 16-20
