The Birth of-Gatlin
Roadside Assistance Scene 1-10 Revised 2/10/00 1. Ext. Inside the Truck, Close to Midnight The truck is a black '89 Dodge Dakota. The Dark One is a man who we do not see until the very last scene in the movie is white, but covered in grease, and wheres a black t-shirt and old faded jeans. The rear window of the truck as a guy with a black greasy white skinned hand reaches through. The lock of the drivers side door as the outstretched fingers pop up the lock. The man opens the drivers side door and gets in. His hands pull down the wires under the steering, and there is a spark and the sound of the ignition. The light in the stereo turns on, as a creepy heavy metal song starts to pound it's way through the cab. The camera lowers as he shifts the truck into reverse. The truck backs out of the parking spot, and then starts to pull forward. He pulls it to the turn out of the parking lot onto the street. The viewer can't see into the cab becuase the window is covered in tin foil. There is only a small slit for him to see. The truck slowly eases onto the street. 2. Ext. North Ave., Minutes later. The truck cruises down the road. It moves slowly by, as other cars pass by. He turns off down a side road. CUT END OF SCENE 1 3. Int. Man's Bedroom, simultaneous A woman is getting dressed. Hurrying to put in her earrings. She is grabbing her coat, and then she kisses the naked man, who has a sheet over him in his bed. He tries to pull her back into her bed, but she pushes him back away. They seperate from the kiss and she walks away. The camera stays on him. Man I wish you could stay. Woman You know better than that. I have a husband to get home to before he makes it home from his mistresses. Man You two have one fucked up relationship. Woman Fucking has nothing to do with it. That's what I take care of you for. The woman stands at the door, looking back at the man, smiling The man is grabbing a pair of boxer shorts from the floor. She leaves out of the door. END OF SCENE 2 3. Outside Man's House, continious The woman walks down the side walk to the street. The truck comes to a stop as she nears the street, as though it is preparing to let her go by. She nods towards the truck, and starts to cross the street, outstretching her arm in the process of turning off her car alarm. The music begins to become roaring loud. The wheels start to slightly squeal Close Up the woman as her eyes open wide. She opens her mouth about to scream. END OF SCENE 3 4. Man's Bedroom, simultanious The man hears the squealing of tires from outside. He is in his boxer shorts, but fearing that it might be the Woman he runs outside. END OF SCENE 4 5. Ext. Outside Man's Apt, continious The man stands in his doorway looking out in horror. The music had died away, and everything seems silent, except for an idling sound. Pan shot from Man 1's Pov, as he looks from the idling truck a few feet down the street, to the end of his sidewalk. There is a woman's leg sticking out from under the car. Not seperated, the leg is still apart of the body, but the body can not be seen. The man runs to the street, not giving any kind of a care for himself, but worried for the Woman, hoping that there could be something he could do. He runs out into the street, and bends down to pick her up in his arms. He is not overly emotionally distraught, since all they were to each other were lovers in the sexual sense. A close-up of the rear tail light. It brightens, and the reverse light comes on. The man kneels there, holding her, trying to think of the best course of action. The truck barrels back, rushing to hit him. Close-up of his face as he turns around to see the truck. A look of terror comes over him as he realizes he only has a few seconds to live. END OF SCENE 5 6. Ext. North Ave, minutes later The truck stops at a stop sign, preparing to turn back onto North Ave. His blinker flashing. Close up of the left blinker as it flashes. It is red from the blood that is covering it. Flashing. The truck pulls slowly back onto the road. It is now around one, and the streets are nearly clear. The truck goes west until it reaches Harlem Ave, and then starts south. There are a few bars that are closing down, but everytime he passes one, there are groups of people coming out. No singles. The truck makes it down to I-290, and gets off to go west. The other side of 290 is pretty well packed, but the side the Dark One is driving is clear. After nearly a mile, up ahead is seen a car pulled over to the side of the road. The truck slows as it goes by. The car is empty, it's hazards flashing, but it has been abandoned. The truck quickly picks up speed, not wanting to waste time where there was no life to kill. The headlights illuminate the road in front of The Dark One as he drives looking out through only that little slot in the tin foil. In his brightlights there is a man (man2) up ahead, walking with a gas can in hand. Man 2 looks over his shoulder as the truck starts to slow down and near him. Man 2 seeing a possible chance at getting a ride to the nearest gas station starts to hold out his thumb in a hitchhiker fashion. The truck starts to slow, and pull over to the side as though to pick man 2 up, but then when it gets close, the truck picks up speed. The man turns and starts to get out of the trucks way, but as he goes to drive there is a solid thud "sound" inside the cab. The truck moves back into the right lane, and continues down 290 After a few more miles, the truck pulls off onto the Wolf Rd. ramp, and works his way around so that he is then heading back the way he came. END OF SCENE 6 7. Ext. Car Wash, Near Dawn The truck just before it enters the car wash. It's front hood covered in blood with clumps of hair stuck to the grill. The truck slowly stalks forward into the car wash until it is fully in. The sprays quickly start to squirt, and wash the truck. END OF SCENE 7 8. Ext. Outside Adam's Apartment building, minutes later Adam is the owner of the truck before it was stolen. The truck slowly eases it's way back into the parking lot. END OF SCENE 8 9. Int. Inside Adam's Apartment. Simultaneous Adam's shape can be seen as the shower runs, and steam billows out. Adam stands in front of his mirror, his back to the camera as he reaches forward to the mirror, and wipe away the steam. He doesn't do a good job, but is good enough to see. He starts to prepare to shave, and then he starts to brush his teeth. A pan of the room in which Adam has a small studio apartment. Very simple. A bed, a small kitchen that is one wall, and two dressers. There is a small desk with a simple computer. It has discarded clothes covering the cpu. the pan stops at him in the small kithen as He stands over his oven as water is preparing to boil. He is wearing a red shirt that is his work uniform. When the water gets hot he pulls the pan off of the red hot electric stove coil. END OF SCENE 9 10. Ext. Outside Adam's Apartment. Minutes later. Adam is coming out of the front of the building, and walks over to the parking lot, and gets into his truck. The camera pulls back just a little to see the arm and mid body of the Dark One standing in the shadows across the street. The truck roars to life, and is quickly pulling out of the parking lot, and off to Adam's work. END OF SCENE 10 SCENE 11-20
