YOUR INVITATION TO BECOME AN ONLINE ACTIVIST
Our objective with this website is to defeat the casinos at dog tracks legislation in the February 1, 2000 Regular Session. But there is an additional reason you may want to step up your activities in helping us do that. You can use the campaign against electronic casinos as “on-the-job training” toward being an online activist. You may later support issues, candidates, parties, or organizations. Your effectiveness will multiply if you are already proficient in on-line politics.
You’ve heard of eCommerce? Well, this is ePolitics. It is the wave of the future. Our successful campaign against Amendment 2 in October 1999 was the first and most advanced use of technology in an Alabama political campaign. We welcome you to come along and learn with us as we defeat casinos at dog tracks and increase our skills in citizen activism.

2. Contact talk shows, sound off lines, forums, and Letters to the Editor
3. Build and contact your database of all personal contacts.
4. Contact your State Representative and State Senator.
1. EMAILING.
Please copy the message below. Then email it to everybody you can get an email address for in Alabama. Please keep sending this message to more and more people from now until the regular session is over in mid-May. Don't stop. Search the Internet for sites with Alabama email addresses. Here is the message to copy and send:
Your help is needed to alert voters about sneak legislation for electronic casinos at Alabama's four dog tracks without a statewide vote. If passed, only voters in four dog track counties will be allowed to vote. This is a sneaky way to avoid a statewide referendum like the October 12 lottery vote.

Then please forward this email to all Alabama email addresses. Keep sending this message until the session ends in mid-May. Thanks. Your help lets people know.
P.S. The website tells other ways you can help.
End of message. Please highlight, copy and paste.
2. OPINION FORUMS.
Call your local radio and TV talk shows. Call "Soundoff” or other comment lines. Post messages on internet bulletin boards and forums. Write Letters to the Editor of your local papers. Make the words and opinions your own. Feel free to use the material in this website as talking points to get you started:
3.PERSONAL DATABASE.
Build and contact your database of all personal contacts.
Each of us knows dozens of people in Alabama – maybe hundreds. This is your natural network of influence. You are hereby appointed the Campaign Manager for your natural network. It is now your responsibility to contact each of these people that you already know and inform them about the dog track casinos scheme.
Begin by making a list of categories of how you know people. Examples:
People you work with
People you worked with in the past
Neighbors
Former neighbors
Friends
Relatives (if your opinion would carry any weight)
People you spend money with
People in your church or club
4. CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS. Please wait a bit on #4 until the Session is closer. For now, please focus on 1-3 above.
You have one State Senator and one State Representative. Please write each a letter. After the Session starts, please ask them to oppose dog track casinos. (Sample letters and contact information will be added right here soon. Please revisit often).
We will add useful tactics to this strategy weekly. Please get started and revisit.
This is your free online course in online activism, while helping to defeat the electronic casinos bill.
