A drawing dated c. 1250 shows a bat & ball game resembling Cricket, although the formal origins are early 18th century. The formation of the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) in 1787 resulted in codified laws by 1835.
The International (Imperial ubtil 1965) Cricket Conference (ICC), was formed by the reperesentatives of England, Australia & South Africa in 1909. India, Newzealand & West Indies were elected members in 1926, Pakistan in 1953 and Sri Lanka in 1981. South Africa ceased to be member in 1961, but was readmitted to Test Cricket in 1992, and later that year Zimbabwe became the ninth Test Cricketing nation. Other, non-Test playing nations have been admitted: 19 as associate members and five as affiliated members.
The object of the game is to score more runs than the opposition. Two members of the batting side are on the field at once, one or other of them defending his or her wicket against balls bowled (in sequence of overs of six) by a member of the fielding side and attempting to strike the ball out of reach of the fielders so as to score runs by running between the .............
