ACT Team Councillor Kerrie Christian was delighted to receive the unanimous support of her fellow councillors, at Wollongong Council's meeting of August 26 2002, for her motion calling on the Federal Government to ratify the Kyoto Agreement on Greenhouse emissions

The Notice of Motion on the Kyoto Agreement was as follows :

"Noting the Federal's Government continuing to decline the signing of the Kyoto Protocol on Greenhouse emissions, and noting Wollongong Council's commitment to the Local Agenda 21, Cities for Climate Protection and Toronto Agreements, Greenhouse Action Plan, as well as its recently announced joint project with the NSW State Government targeting emissions from small business and commercial areas, and also, in the context of the of the Johannesburg Summit 2002 -the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development,

I move that Wollongong Council write to the Federal Government urging the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol as a matter of urgency."
