WHO IS THE ACTIVE COMMUNITY TEAM .....

The Active Community Team (ACT) is a community group made up of ordinary people : families, retired people, young couples, conservationists and business people.

Formed in 1983, when ACT's first representative, Dave Martin was elected, ACT Team councillors worked for 25 years for a community focused council, where people's needs come first. ACT Team councillors did not belong to any political party, but worked for a council free from domination by big developers, big business and party politics. Former Ward 1 Councillors Martin & Cartan continue to serve the community, notwithstanding WCC's dismissal on recommendation from ICAC investigations into alleged links of former council staff (including an ALP member) & some ALP councillors to developers.

Note - On March 4 2008 Wollongong's elected councillors were dismissed by NSW Local Government Minister Paul Lynch on recommendation of an ICAC commissioner investigating corruption at WCC . ACT Team member & NC6 Convenor Len Fares had for some years been raising concerns about WCC issuing consents allowing higher and denser development in Wollongong city. Four ALP councillors were investigated along with a former WCC manager (also an ALP member), as well as a number of other persons, including developers. (See ICAC Report Part 2.
