FEATURED STUDENT:

Wesley

My name is Wesley I am 10 years old. My family has lived in Columbus Junction for 2 1/2 years. I have 1 brother, Max, and my mom and dad.

My favorite color is blue and I like eating Milky Way bars. Out of all my subjects, I like reading, and my least favorite subject is MATH! Right now I am reading “Redwall” books by Brian Jacques. In my spare time I play with Gl Joes and Legos. I also have a hobby of building military models.

My favorite dog is Pretzel (we have 4 dogs total). He’s the dog I am holding in my picture.

I like to rollerblade in the summer and ice skate and swim and play video gams (only on the weekends).

Garfield, Gl Joe, and Calvin and Hobbs are comic books I enjoy reading.

This past summer I learned to ride a “tube” with my brother, Max, behind the motor boat. We went camping and fishing as a family and also with just my father and brother. One time we took 2 of our dogs (mini-dachshunds) camping with us and my mom didn’t get any sleep because they would bark at every noise. My Mom says we’re not taking them with us again.!

I also enjoy being in the Muscatine Children’s Choir during the school year. I enjoy performing with the other kids there!

To all TEECH Members, Thank you so much for your generous donations. It helped to make this holiday season a very special one. My heart is overfilled with gratitude for all of your giving, food, donations and other goods to help us through this tight spot. Our car is now up and running. Our house is warmer because of the heater that was replaced. The food and other items have been very useful as well. Thank you all for sharing and God bless you!

Book Reviews

"The Runt" by Rick Boyer.
Reviewed by N. Wagner
http ://www.thelearningparent. com/

If you're looking for Christian books for and about homeschool kids, this is a good one. The main character is Kit, a homeschool boy 13 year old in the Ozarks, probably in the 1950s or 1960s.

Kit is the smallest boy his age in Flat Creek County, not unlike his pup, and feels like God isn't answering his prayers to be big and strong like his daddy, the Sheriff. Runt was not his first choice in a coon dog, but Kit soon bonds with him. Kit and his best friend "Simmer" spend a lot of time and effort training Runt to be a great coon dog, then to be a man tracker.

Along the way he learns that God doesn't always answer prayers immediately and not always in the way Kit intended. But he does learn that God's plans are best and sometimes it's good to be small.

Rick paints a good picture of the surroundings and action with his words. There are no scenarios that are truly implausible or impossible yet Kit and Runt both come out as heroes in the end. This would be a great book to read aloud as a family or for an 11-14 year old to read on his/her own.

To summarize, it is:

1. Christian in all aspects.

2. Home educated main character in an intact family.

3. Neither the public school, students, or teachers are vilified.

4. Truly interesting with fast moving excitement at the end.

KING ARTHUR Reviewed by Ben H.

This book was written by Robert Louis Stevenson. The setting of the story took place in England during the medieval times. The main character is Arthur, of course. This story doesn't only talk about Arthur, it also talks about Merlin and all the other Knights of the Round Table.

THE CHAPTERS

" Merlin, as a child, was taken by a group of knights to a cruel king, Vortigern. Merlin told him that a lake was underneath the tower he was constructing. Vortigern had his workers dig and a lake came up. Merlin told him that two dragons would come out of the lake. The red one represented him and the white one represented his enemy. The two dragons came and fought. The red one was killed and so was the king by his enemy.

Joseph was a gardener and had a holy cup (grail). One day, he was called by a spirit to go to the island west-over-the-sea with his family. They went and had a great feast.

A dragon appeared in the sky at night to give a sign that Arthur was going to be born.

A sword appeared in England. It had writings on it and they were: "Who ever pulleth the sword out of the stone shall be king of all England." One day, Arthur went to a tournament with his foster family (because Merlin gave him to them so he could train Arthur). When he was at the tournament, he forgot his Brother Kay's sword. When he went back to the inn, it was closed. So he went to the sword in the stone and pulled it out. He was made king of all England after he got back.

Merlin built the round table from the book's instructions he found, in the druid's home that appeared right before him.

Arthur battled a knight and Arthur's sword of the king broke. Merlin took Arthur to a lake to get a new sword. It was Excalibur! Arthur took Excalibur and was going to battle the knight again, but Merlin said he had fought enough.

Arthur went to a castle that was being attacked by its enemies. Arthur slayed many enemies with just a touch with Excalibur. After the battle, he met the princess of the castle, Guinevere and fell in love with her.

Arthur wedded Guinevere and the round table had all its seats filled except two... The Seat beside Arthur and The Seat Perilous.

King Pellinore Became a knight of the Round-Table, and a great lady was captured by a black knight... Pellinore rescued the lady and slayed the black knight. He became the lord of a castle and the guardian of the fountain.

Sir Tristam was sent over sea to Ireland to pick up a princess, Iseult, for King Mark. Tristam and Iseult drank a love potion without knowing it. She still married the king and Tristam and Iseult were very sad un till they died.

The foundling Prince wanted to marry Olwen but her father was very cruel. Olwen was a princess and her father wanted many marvels done in order for the wedding to go on, but they preformed most of them and killed the king while cutting his hair. The foundling prince and Olwen were married.

Sir Geraint was one of the most handsome Knights of the Round Table. He ventured into the fairy woods to find and adventure, and he did. The Queen (Guinevere) was struck by a knight's dwarf, and Geraint followed them. They led him to a palace where the lord and his queen and daughter (Ewid) were thrown out by the knight. Geraint Slayed the knight and married Ewid.

Lancelot was a baby and was taken by a fairy lady of the lake. He was taken to the bottom of O the lake and taken care of. When he got older he left the lake and became a knight of the round table.

Gareth was a kitchen boy who became a knight. The maiden, whom he needed to save her sister, always mocked him during his quest. He slayed the four knights and freed her sister. She no longer mocked him anymore.

Merlin was growing old and Nimue was learning most of his secrets. She put him in an endless sleep using his fountain.

King Arthur went on another adventure! He was chasing a black stag when a ship appeared after he had killed the stag. He boarded the ship and it led him to a dungeon where an evil lord held twenty knights. Arthur defeated the lord and freed the prisoners.

For further Info, read King Arthur!

Mega Man Battle Net Work

Are you a Mega Man Battle Net Work Fan? If not, maybe I can convince you to become one.

The Battle Net Work's characters are people that have P.E.T. P.E.T.S are places where net navies are in. The characters in the game own the P.E.T.S and jack there Net Navies into the internet. Net Navies are small internet programs that are like humans. The word "navi" is short for the word navigator and the net navi that you have to play is named Mega Man E.X.E. His owner is named Lan Hikari.

Well, I am going to tell you a big secret about Mega Man Battle Net Work 3. The whole big secret is to be able to become king of the under-net and to get a really good battle chip. I will tell you how to do this. After you beat the first boss in this game, you go to the zoo. That's where you get your Navi Customizer. A Navi Customizer is a program that allows you to customize your Navi with battle programs. In the beginning of the game a scientist tells you how to use the battle chips. Battle Chips are programs that are used to delete viruses and to battle other Net Navis. Now, I'm going to explain to you the big secret. After you beat the final boss of the game, there will be a gold star on the menu screen. You go inside this rock which is inside of the zoo. You do this so you can jack into the net through there. Then, there will be a big hole with torches around it. You push the (A) button on the hole and you will enter the secret area in the game. But that still isn't the Big Secret. Next you need a hundred, twenty different kinds of battle chips to be able to open the first door and enter it. Once you enter the door you will face a Net Navi name Dark Man. After you beat Dark Man, you need what is called a Gigga Chip.

A Gigga Chip is a really powerful chip. There are different types of chips but the Gigga Chips are the most powerful of them all. Some Gigga Chips can restore power to other chips that have lost their power in the battle. The Gigga Chip that can restore power is called Folder Back. After you get a Gigga Chip you can open the next door. A guy will appear named Japan Man. When you beat Japan Man, you will be in the next area. You need all two hundred standard chips in order to open the door to the King of the Under Net named Serenade. After you beat Serenade you will become the next king of the Under Net. But there is a Bug Chip Trader in the secret area 3. The Bug Chip Trader is a Trader that you put Bug Frags into so you can get more battle chips. Bug Frags are bugs you get to keep if you destroy a virus right before it attacks you. If you put two hundred Bug Frags into the Bug Chip Trader after you beat Serenade, there will be a Net Navi that comes out the Bug Chip Trader named Bass G. S. Bass is a Net Navi that hates humans and hides himself in the Bug Chip trader. Bass absorbs the Bug Frags that you put into the Bug Chip Trader. After you beat Bass you will receive a really good battle chip. The are two versions of Battle Net-Work 3. The versions are blue and white. On the blue version the battle chip you receive is called Bass Plus. On the white version the battle chip you receive is called just Bass. There are many more secrets to this game, if you want to know what they are you will have to play this game and figure it out for yourself.
