What do the local officers do?


Seneschal - The seneschal is much like the president of other clubs and organizations and is the legal representative for the SCA. This person is in charge of the organization of the group, and making sure the group functions as smoothly as possible. The seneschal is in charge of all public relations, and contact with people outside the SCA.

Pursuivant - Also known as herald or the Cabochard Pursuivant in Coeur d'Ennui, this person keeps track of who has which awards, helps gentles research and register their names and devices and makes announcements at tournaments and courts.

Chronicler - The chronicler produces the newsletter of the group, which contains articles, artwork and news that is of interest to the group. Coeur d'Ennui's newsletter is the Boar's Snore. Axed Root' s newsletter is called The Copse.

Treasurer - The treasurer, also called the exchequer, handles the money and financial matters for the group.

Baron and Baroness - These gentles are the ceremonial heads of the Barony and are the representatives of the King and Queen. They are also responsible for heightening the medieval environment of the group's activities.

Knights Marshal - The knights marshal is in charge of armored combat training. This person trains fighters and is in charge of getting gentles authorized to fight, first in sword and shield, then in other weapon systems. The knights marshal is also responsible for working with the Archer Marshal to train gentles interested in combat archery.

Minister of Arts and Sciences - The MoA/S covers the interests of the gentles within a group that involve arts, crates and sciences activities. This person also plans activities and helps gentles find sources of information and teachers.

Chatelaine - The chatelaine is in charge of recruiting new people through activities and demonstrations, improving the public image of the SCA and helping new members integrate into the SCA through seminars and other activities.

Gold Key - Gold Key has garb, accessories and feast gear available for new members and guests to borrow for events.

Archer Marshal - The archer marshal handles archery training for gentles who wish to take part in archery tournaments, competitions and fun.
