Topic: Our Government
Examples of headlines today are 2 billion cut from low-income home energy program. A 1 percent in reduction in aid to the low-income. Iowa icon, Maytag being sold while top executives who are accused of mishandling the company make millions from the sale. Hundreds have already lost their jobs and future does not look good for remaining workers. Cities in Iowa passing laws probiting sex offenders from living in the city. People are kicked out of homes they own because the laws does not define the sex offenders crime. Was it a 19 year old having intercourse with a 17 year old in 1995 or was it a 50 year old molesting a child. This is problems that needs addressing. Some limits need defined. What I write is mostly from articles found in the paper on Friday, December 23. Are there any good news to brighten this Christmas season? Most articles I have seen in the paper the last few months show out government officials scorn and indifference to the eldery and low income in this great country. One of our great statesman tell of working on a assembly line 40 years ago in his run for office but now his votes are not for the working class but for the wealthy. Has he forgotten why he was voted for? Our government refused to raise minium wage to a level beyond proverty pay yet our president tells us we need immigrants to do jobs which Americans will not do. Why? Could it be jobs with no benefits and pay which is substandard. Retirement plans which crumble like the bricks of the factory forsake as the company moves to a another country with help of our government. Yes I am told our government helps a company set up a factory in a delevoping country. The question is where is the good news. When are our government gone to see beyond there shortsighted nose and have the foresight to see what is good for the people of this great nation.
Meanwhile our government worries about WMD. Thousands have crossed the Mexican border this month and our government is so shortsighted as not to see the threat of WMD being carried across this border.
Wake up Bush, Grassley and other statesmen. If this has not happened already it will. Rep. King said a 10 foot fence with razor wire was needed and he was thought irrational. Sounds fine to me. They could add a mine field for all I care. Anyhow those who we vote for need to work for the people who voted them in office and not be courting the oil companies or the super rich. The same for our government allowing companies to move out of the USA. It must stop. We have more and more people out of work or working at jobs paying much less than they were making a few years ago.
