"Dude! Yer gettin' a Dell!" That little Eddie Haskell wannabe punk from the Dell Commercials
I would have liked to have maintained the clear line I have drawn between my home life and my work life, but I've come to accept the fact that I'm going to need to be able to access the Microsoft corporate network from home now and then. Doing so will require more hardware and bandwidth then my poor little Pentium II 266MHz with its screaming 28.8 modem could handle. So I'm buying a new machine, getting a router, and subscribing to a cable modem provider. Hooray for technology and capitalism!
I've put some new pictures in the photoalbum, but I didn't bother to label or explain most of them yet. Some good shots of the baby polar bear and the baby hippo at the Denver zoo.
My dentist told me I should get braces. I don't know if I can really handle the idea of having a mouthful of metal at this stage in my life.
That's the news that's fit to print. Have a fabulous week.

"Don't lose your head." Ramirez, Highlander
This entry is dedicated to my rommate Carl. because: - He made a table in our garage in about 15 minutes when I had some friends and family over for a cookout without realizing that we didn't actually own a table.
- He knows what kind of wine goes with an M-16 assault rife
- He taught me how to cook salmon
- He never ceases to amaze me
A good example of that last bit would be the other night when I realized that he had cleaned out the entire garage. I was standing in the middle of it feeling thoroughly impressed when I noticed a plaster head sitting in the corner. The following converstation ensued:- Me: What's that?
- Carl: A head.
- Me: Whose head, exactly?
- Carl: Mine
- Me: Yours as in you own it or yours as in its a model of your head?
- Carl: Both
- Me: Why do you have a plaster model of your head?
- Carl: Well I was thinking of building a scuba diving helmet once, and I needed a model head to work on
- Me: Oh. Well that's alright then.

"That´s when sport was a sport And groovin´ was groovin´ And dancin´ meant everything We were young and we were improvin'" John Mellencamp, Cherry Bomb
Take pleasure in the details and the small things.
That's been the theme for the last few days and its definitly an important piece of the whole Happiness Puzzle. Sunday I cleaned the house. I hate cleaning, but I take a lot of pleasure in the results. Sunday night my friend Sybille rolled back into town on a Greyhound (leaving her car with some houseguest who are doing Vancouver for a few days) so I picked her up and we had dinner downtown on the sound. We found this little wannabe New York/New England diner that had an impressive sounding menu but they were out of everything that made then sound impressive. Among the things they advertised but did not stock: - Bagels
- Egg Creams
- Green Tomatos
- Cheese Blitnzies
So we settled for a canish (sp?) and a rare roast beef sandwitch with some horrible potato salad. The food here in Seattle is excellent, but there are many things that are only done right on the East Coast.
I met Sybille out dancing, and we usually carpool out the Century since we're both Microsofties on the East side (Eeeest Sigh-YEEED!) As a couple we don't seem to have any romantic potential, but as pair of dancing fools we RULE! She hadn't been out dancing for a over a month due to vacations and whatnot, and while I still went dancing without her its so much more fun with her. The trick is that while we are both trying to learn and get better, we really just go out and play. We screw up constantly, but we both understand this so we just sort of role with it. I think if you really want to get better at something, but still want to enjoy doing it you really need a friend like that.
Huge breakthrough on the volleyball front. Went out on the MS courts today and joined a pickup game with some REALLY good players. I was hanging with them, but they were definitly all on another level from me. After an hour and a half of genuine, honest-to-god, bump-set-KILL volleyball they (in a bizzare sort of conspiratory way) told me about this email listserv that they use to put together games. I guess most of the guys are really only interested in playing with people who are competative so they are kind of snobby about who they invite out to play with them. Now I love volleyball in any form from the backyard one-hit and over games to the A/B-league rec games, but I must confess it was great to play The Real Thing. Holy cow.... even if they only get together once a week that would still make my summer.
Hope yall are enjoying the details of your lives.

"Hear the voices in my head I swear to god it sounds like they're snoring But if you're bored then you're boring The agony and the irony, they're killing me!" Harvey Danger, "Flagpole Sitta"
I'm performing a Lindy routine with my instructor this Thursday in a dance showcase. Its just she and I on stage this time rather than several couples like the first time I did this. However, I'm a lot less nervous than I would have imagined. Probably because I (very clearverly) didn't invite anyone I know to come watch. Its so much easier to embarass yourself in front of people you don't know. Why people invite friends to competitions & preformances for "moral support" is beyond me.
We have a third rommate! Her name is Shannon and she moves in on the 15th. A load off the collective minds of everyone in our house. Well almost everyone. I think all Samantha and Penelope care about is having at least one person around to feed them and a set of clean sheets to shed on.
So I need to figure out if I want to go on any vations this summer, and if so where I should go. The most tempting choice right now is to Stay Right Here because summers in Seattle kick ass! Plus there's lots of summer-type stuff I have yet to do (Portland, Raineer, The Olympic Penninsula, Concerts at the Gorge, Vancouver, etc). Generous offers so far include North Carolina and Miami (though its really, REALLY, the wrong time of year for Miami if you're a red-headed Yankee). Anyone else have any inspired ideas?

"But if you're gonna leave: take good care Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there But just remember there's a lot of bad, and beware... Ooh baby, baby its a wild world" Cat Stevens
Tonight was Julia's last night at the Century. Dancers are a bit like Hallmark: They have a something for every occasion. Goodbye Dances are always impressive. Everyone circles round (a hundred or so people easily), and people just take turns jumping in and dancing with the Man (or in this case Woman) of the Hour.
I've always been too chicken to jump in and take my turn (most of the people who do these dances are excellent), and so I grabbed Julia for a dance later (actually she grabbed me: she's the best :-). Now I had a crush on Julia from almost the first time I met her, but as I've said: she's moving away and taken so what's a guy to do?
As we finished off the dance Julia tells me that the one good thing about this being her last night dancing with everybody is that she can finally say all the things that you only say when you know its the last time you'll see a person. I think I responded to this with some thing really witty like, "Oh." She then proceded to tell me that she had had a crush on me for some time. Feeling like my cards had been called I admitted to feeling the same way. That just figures. Well... maybe when she finishes her Neuro-psychology degree... Shit. Things like this always remind me of the end of "Dogma" where God (Who is Alanis Moressette) responds to the question: "What is our purpose in life?" by poking the questioner on the nose and gooing "Boop!".
