Newsgroups for the Internet - Lesson2

Do I need special software to use Newsgroups?

Now, we will be applying two methods when using Newsgroups one will be using our web browser when applying Newsgroup features the second is this site listed below.  I have setup a site for students in our Internet class to practice posting message.  Why you ask? There are places on several Newsgroups, which are not-Moderated and there is a possibility that someone may FLAME (non-netiquette)  you it's best to have a place for practice. This site will allow you to do just that, practice posting messages to a discussion group/newsgroup on the WWW site.

This link http://lenx3fp.virtualave.net/cusutoc.htm will give you a direct connection to the posting site. You should then see a display similar to the one shown here. You will also notice a current message posted up-to-date. There will be some popup adds, so please understand this site is semi--free hopefully we may have time to install an ad buster to help with this dilemma. Warning: if messages pop-up just minimize the ad don't close with X or they will pop-up again, and again.  

What you will need to do in order to successfully post a message to this Discussion group? As you will note I have placed an item onto this discussion group for all to read. This is considered to be an Un-moderated site, I do have the ability to delete any messages that may need to be removed. But we hopefully won't see that happen.

1. Click on the [ Post ] at the top of the page under the heading of the page.
2. Next you will see a screen similar to this 

Fill in all the elements displayed here within this form, Subject, Email address (use the college account), Comments or Questions? Then once all elements are complete you will simply click the Post Article button and Walla  you are done. If you make any entry errors you can click the button to clear the entire form, which may happen once or twice. Think of it as learning and not the I have done something incorrect, we all have learn at our own pace!

3. The last part you will see a message stating that the message has been posted! You will then need to click on the top of the web page to view yours as well the other students messages. That is all you will need to successfully post messages to this Discussion/Newsgroup form. Please give this process a try several times if you wish.
