Irvine Lake, Irvine, California, USA

Record channel catfish lurk in Irvine Lake. Largemouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, carp and even sturgeon are caught in this well stocked California lake.

"Irvine Lake is one of the most popular lakes in southern California. It is a pay to fish lake, but it’ s well worth it. They regularly stock an average of 5,000 pounds of trout per week from late October to early May. Some fish do survive each year and you can catch them in deep water throughout the year. Most trout are 1 to 8 pounds with some bonus fish in the 8 to 12 pound class. Steelhead have been stocked also with most fish in the 2 to 6 pound range. There have also been stockings of brook trout and brown trout. Some popular baits for catching Irvine Lake trout are power baits and nightcrawlers. Once the water warms, the attention turns to the warm water species. Channel catfish are heavily stocked throughout the summer providing some exciting action. There are plenty of largemouth bass in the 2 to 3 pound range with many fish over 10 pounds. Crappie fishing is excellent with many fish around 2 pounds. Carp and sturgeon are also available.
