Twinkie, Cupcake and Oreo
were originally with another foster mom at the humane
organization I volunteered with. When they were 5 weeks
old she went on vacation for a week and asked me if I
could foster while she was gone. Of course I said yes and
then we never heard from her again! These little guys arrived
with fevers and the runs from Giardia, a bacteria found
in some drinking water. Oh! What fun!

We spent over a month
dealing with the Giardia and then Sammy
arrived...with ringworm! So here I was with 9 kittens and
5 adult cats battling ringworm. (By the way, I got it
too.) Welcome to the world of rescue! Treatments for the
ringworm and Giardia were going well so off to adoption
day we go. Oreo (no pic available) was
adopted the first time out! She went with a lady who was
looking for a companion for her cat. Oreo is doing very
well at his new home.

Cupcake was adopted to a
young couple in Charlottesville. They were very
cooperative as this operation took several weeks to
accomplish working around everyone's schedules. Twinkie is the original
beanie baby because whichever way you positioned her she
would sleep. Even upside down! She was adopted by a
daycare family and now lives with Tortilla.

What is truly amazing to
me is that all of the adoptive families were
understanding about the kittens health problems. They
accepted that these babies were rescued from bad
situations and even continued with the treatments I had
started. Giardia can be a very serious problem and
cleaning up yucky poop all day is not a fun time! I have
been very fortunate to find wonderful homes for all my
babies. I feel very blessed. |
