Elmo was one of Patches' kittens.
Skip, my husband, the old 'cat hater', fell in love with
this little guy and just couldn't part with him. Elmo was
born on Valentines Day in 1981 he was the biggest of the
litter and sweet as an angel. His nickname was Bubba.
He was a great cat, very loving
and very protective of us and his mommy, Patches.
He was right beside his mother when she was killed by a
car. This litter was my 'educational' experience.
Although I had grown up with cats in the house, I was not
very 'up' on cat care and the need to spay/neuter. The
first time Elmo threw up his tail and squirted the couch
I panicked and called the vet thinking something was
wrong! The vet laughed and assured me that neutering
would solve the problem. Shows you what I knew then!

On Elmo's eighth birthday we took
him in for a routine exam. The doc assured us that all
was fine. A few days later Elmo collapsed and died right
in front of us. It was determined that he had a
undectable heart disease which had caused his heart to
fail.
I think Elmo was the first cat
Skip had ever opened his heart to. He was devastated and
I don't think he's ever really recovered from the loss of
his Bubba.
