I remember the first time we
met...June, 1993. It was my birthday and Skip handed me a
tiny jewelry gift bag. I looked inside and saw the
funniest looking little kitten I have ever seen! He
weighed 1.5 pounds at 8 weeks old and his fur was going
in 20 different directions at once! I named him Einstein,
because of the hair.
Einstein had a lot of health
problems, mostly due to malutrition and mouth ulcers
called Rodin ulcers. It took the first 2 years of his
life to recover from this but, he always had an obsession
with food, he would eat, barf, then eat some more. Silly
cat. At around 18 months old Einsteins full coat came in
and under that 'ugly' duckling facade was a huge,
beautiful Maine coon/mix with the most charming
personality.
He loved to take showers with my
husband and would rub his legs dry afterward while Skip
serenaded him in a voice no one would appreciate but
Einstein! He became know as "Absorb the bathroom
attendant" and never responded to the name Einstein
again only to Absorb, Abby, Abble-Babble or a whistle and
he would coming running to have his tail pulled. He
really loved that. No cat on earth ever enjoyed a nap
like Absorb. When he napped he would put his heart, soul
and body into it and it was a site to behold.
Toward the end of September 2000 I
made a comment to Skip that Absorb was dropping weight
and his coat was looking odd, it was time to see the doc.
The doc immediately told us that he was very ill and she
suspected kidney failure or pancreas trouble. The blood
work showed a sick liver and pancreas. We tried
aggressive treatments, IV's, antibiotics, round the clock
care but, after 5 days it was apparent that Ab's little
body was not gonna respond. So on October 11, 2000 we
helped him cross the Bridge.
Absorb was only 7 years old. We
thought he would be here a long time but, in the blink of
an eye...he was gone. I came home and hugged all my
babies, you just never know. We can still feel Absorb
everywhere in the house. His poor body got sick but, I
know he was not ready to leave and a part of him is still
here.

Absorb (Einstein) Claud
April 1993 - October 2000
I see you
walk to me with those huge, gentle paws,
wearing
those fuzzy pantaloons and it makes me smile.
I miss
you,
Love
Mommy
