As you can see, Bug's grown quite a bit since the last set of pictures. We have had him looked at by a specialist and they concluded that Bug is suffering from:

Entropion (rolling in of the eyelids) and ectropion (rolling out of the eyelids) are conditions caused by abnormal eyelid position in relation to the globe itself. If the patient has heavy facial features they will probably have ectropion. If it causes exposure problems, ectropion needs correction. If the eye size is relatively small for the size of the orbit, entropion will result. Entropion will often cause abrasions of the cornea and/or irritation of the conjunctiva. This is very painful and will require surgery to correct. Most cases of entropion and ectropion are heritable in so far as the conformation of the head, size of the orbit, size of the globe, and eyelid conformation is heritable. Entropion or ectropion may also occur due to scarring from previous injury or surgery. Excessive facial folds are seen in the neonatal and young Shar Pei and Chow Chow. This may result in a combination of entropion and trichiasis The most common treatment in young pups is the use of "temporary tacking sutures or staples" to hold the eyelids away from the cornea to prevent damage. If the entropion persists beyond six months of age, a more convention entropion surgery is used to effect permanent correction.

I have him scheduled for surgery this weekend, July 6, 2001 and hopefully this will fix the problem and eliminate the need to remove his remaining eye. He has a little more sight than we give him credit for, I think. He's still our baby, no matter how many younger or more needy souls pass through these doors. :)

Update 7/6/01

Bug had his surgery today. The Entropion went well. When Doc K. went in to clean and close up his socket (enucleation sp?), she said she was totally floored. She started to clean out the tissue, and kept going and going, looking for the bone and socket bones, and they weren't there.Looks like Bug never formed an eye socket at all on the inside, she had to guess where to stop. So,Bug is going to be one hurting baby for a long number of days. I get to the hospital, and Bug is as cold as ice. His temp went down to 94*, then 96*. So I turned up the heating pad, and doc gave him some kind of shot for his circulation.
