Growin' up
for Allen Iverson
Allen was born
and is from Hampton, Virginia. He has two sisters. His mum gave birth to
him at the age of 16. He had a tough time growing up, his best friend was
murdered. During his childhood, his family spent many days without water
and electricity because they were often unable to pay the bills. In his
junior year at Bethel high he was Virginia State Player of the Year in
two sports, playing point guard in basketball and quarterback and cornerback
in football. That year he led the Bruins to the state championship in both
sports. He was intending to go to Maryland and play both football &
basketball. There he would have joined his good friend Joe Smith( now they
both are in Philly together). But in 1993 a brawl in bowling alley ruined
all that. As he could not play football or basketball in his senior year
of high school he wasn't highly recruited. During the summer he had to
finish school and got into Georgetown where he also studied B. Fine Arts
.
