Swollen Members: October 23, 2003 Review

By Jason Richards - NowToronto.com (VOL. 23 NO. 8)

OK, so this doesn't completely suck, but it does when you consider just how much better Swollen Members were on their first album, Balance. That was before all the shirtless preening in the music videos and the Juno Awards. And before the Much mega-hit singles in which Moka Only puts words to a catchy melody and then sings that over a beat as the hook. Every song sounds exactly the same as the last one. Man, if the Swollen Members who did Balance could meet the Swollen Members who did Heavy, they'd beat the shit out of their future with medieval weapons. This album finds the Members pandering to their fickle pop audience while trying to win back the rap heads who gave up on them so long ago.
