Swollen Members: Apr 02, 2003 Review

By Dennis Scanland - MusicEmissions.com

The Swollen Members are releasing a new slab of heavy Hip-Hop on is and it’s about time. After this West Coast act dropped their debut on us we have been salivating for more of their skillful rapping and dead-cool sampling. What do they deliver on Bad Dreams? The collective delivers raps and rhymes that are bigger and stronger than anything that was on their debut Balance. Swollen Members are full of new sounds and most importantly raps that don’t get old quickly. You can listen to their albums over and over without getting bored. Madchild and Prevail are hotter than ever and let’s just touch on the guests here. Bad Dreams has appearances from Jurassic 5's Chali 2Na, Dilated People’s Evidence, DJ Babu, Planet Asia, DJ Revolution, Joey Chavez, Son Doobie, Moka Only, and other key members of the Battle Axe crew. It’s something to be said to be able to get Jurassic 5 on your album. I can honestly say that there is not a bad track on Bad Dreams. Swollen Members have delivered one of the most solid hip-hop albums this year. Diversity is what it’s all about. Stick around for the cool bonus track after “High Road”. It’s totally worth the wait.
