Swollen Members Hash out Deal With American Major

By ChartAttack.com Staff (Actual Writer not Specified)

The rumours have been floating for the better half of the last year (hell, Mad Child even came right out and talked about it in a MuchMusic interview), but now it seems that Vancouver hip-hop sensations Swollen Members have finally secured themselves a U.S. record deal. According to an article in the January 4 edition of the Vancouver Sun, SM have signed a deal with Virgin Records.

Virgin will represent SM and their Battleaxe record label in the United States and Europe only. Canadian music industry giant Nettwerk will still handle the quartet — now comprised of Mad Child, Prevail, Moka Only and Rob The Viking — in Canada.

Swollen Members just finished shooting the much-hyped video for their new single, "Breath." The video is being directed by Edmontonian-turned-multi-millionaire Todd McFarlane, the creator of the Spawn comic book series and the director of videos such as Korn’s award-winning "Freak On A Leash." "Breath" is almost a guaranteed smash, not only because of McFarlane’s involvement in the vid, but also because the song showcases the vocal talents of fellow West coaster Nelly Furtado, who also stars in the video. Not a bad way to formally break into the American market.

According to the Sun article, the McFarlane video will have the Members in action mode, with Mad Child and Prevail kicking down doors and Rob The Viking locked in some sort of cage. See it for yourself when the video premieres later this month.
