The Sugarcubes

The Sugarcubes circa 1988: Dreamy. And stuff.
One of the most original bands in the entire post-punk cannon, the Sugarcubes have, perhaps unfortunately, been eclipsed by Björk's solo career. They certainly serve as the only logical jumping off point for Björk's proper solo career. And yet, it feels like she would have gone in a completely different direction (if in any direction at all) without the band's existence. Björk fans cannot do without the Cubes' catalogue, but neither can 80's post-punk/alternative fans. The style and sounds they pioneered are entirely unique, so I'll just call them 'guitar rock' and cringe at myself in digust of that label's shockingly limited (and connotation heavy) branding. Hard to imagine a lot of things coming about without them, yet completely and wholly difficult to pin down exactly why that is.
