I have just read an extraordinary and adventurous story that I’d love to tell you about! The name of this exceptional book is Jim Davis- a high sea adventure by John Masefield. Now, let’s hear about this exciting tale!

When Jim Davis was a young boy, both of his parents died. After that, he went to live with his Uncle. Jim was living like a regular twelve year old boy from then on, until one day. On a frosty morning when Jim went outside to build a snow fort, something caught his eye. It was a large man on top of a hill. To Jim, it looked like the man was looking for something. Then the man started coming towards Jim. He was scared, but then realized that the man was pretty friendly, but would turn out more dangerous than Jim thought.

The man’s name is Marah Gorsuch. When Jim finds out that Marah is a pirate, he is curious and wants to see Marah’s ship, and maybe learn about it or sail a little. Marah shows it to him, and then they decide to sail the seas!

Jim enjoys sailing-at first. He meets Marah’s gang of pirates, a nasty, lazy group of men that get along okay with Jim-at first. Jim loves being an outlaw, sailing to new places every few days, excitement on the pirate ship, and just living the adventurous life of a pirate. Jim finds out later that he isn’t so sure about Marah Gorsuch and his sneaky henchmen. They are more dangerous and aggressive pirates than Jim thought! Jim doesn’t love the life of an outlaw anymore, he finds himself scared of Marah and his gang. He has to find a way to get back home, or he’s stranded at the rough sea waters forever, stuck on the ship with evil Marah! Will he escape? You’ll find out if you decide to read Jim Davis-a high sea adventure!

This wonderful book is one of the best action stories I’ve ever read. On a scale of one to ten, I’d rate Jim Davis-a high sea adventure a nine because there was some really difficult vocabulary, but the rest of this book was pretty easy to read. I think fifth grade and above would really enjoy this book!

Over all, this fantastic adventure was exceptionally written by John Masefield, and an awesome story! (February, 2003)
