Chad
Hutchinson's development as an NFL quarterback continues as one
of the key areas of focus for the 2003 Dallas Cowboys. While
making the transition from baseball to football in 2002,
Hutchinson displayed flashes of promise and unique ability,
while he also experienced the disappointment and frustration of
working in an offense that was slowed by injury and
inconsistency throughout the season. He signed a professional
baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals in July of 1998
after being chosen in the second round of the Major League
Baseball Draft (48th overall), leaving Stanford with two years
of football eligibility remaining. Over four seasons in the
Cardinals organization, he moved between Class A and Class AAA
ball, compiling a 17-25 record and a 5.63 ERA.
