Pam's Place Easter Crafts Directions

Egg Candle

Good luck and enjoy !

Melt And Pour
Melt And Pour
You need to start with blown eggs, but with only one hole on top. With a sharp pin of skewer, poke a hole in the top of an egg breaking through the membrane below the surface. This hole can be as much as 1/2" in diameter to be able to fit the funnel through the opening. With the pin or skewer scramble the egg and drain the contents into a bowl. Rinse the egg out and then set in the egg carton to dry.
ADULTS ONLY:
Melt some old candles or paraffin wax and coloring in a double boiler over low heat. (You can now also buy candle wax in easy microwavable pellets.) Hold the funnel over the egg and carefully pour the melted wax into the eggshell in the carton.
When the eggshell is nearly full, incert the wired wick into the egg. You can center it and then place a small piece of tape on either side to hold it in the center.

Allow the wax to cool and harden, then begin to break off the shell and buff the candle with a soft rag. Heat the bottom end of the candle to soften, then press on a flat surface to make the candle stand up or use a votive candle holder.
Variations:
You can use several different colors of wax layering them and cooling between additions.
You can also buy preformed wax decorations for your candle at craft stores and use these to decorate your candle.
You can also melt down old crayons for this project, and make egg shaped crayons ! (Skip the wicks though !)
