Mrs. McPherson looked up from her file on the desk. Her daughter came barreling in almost in hysterics. “What, what?”
Summer stared at her, and opened her mouth to speak. Only to shut it a second later and then reopen. “Was that Zac,” She said motioning towards the door. “Zac Hanson?” She asked eagerly.
“Possibly.” She conceded smiling.
“What was he doing here?” Summer questioned eyeing her mother.
“You know I’m not allowed to discuss my patients, Summer.” Her mom warned sternly.
Summer groaned and threw her hands up. “Mom!” She screamed in exasperation.
Mrs. McPherson grinned. “Yes, dear?”
“Just tell me this,” Summer said slowly. “Is he blind.”
She didn’t blink, “Yes.”
At that Summer closed her eyes, I knew it! Haha, I was right! Go me!
Then her eyes flew open, and stared blankly at her mom. Wait, I was right? He is blind?
Suddenly she was sitting down. Oh, boy. She thought placing her hand to her forehead. Now what?
“Have fun today?” Taylor asked as Zac walked into the room.
Zac threw his bag on his bed, then flopped down beside it. “Oh yeah.” He said dryly. “It was a blast.” He voiced sarcastically. “You should come next time. It’s really an educational experience.”
Isaac and Taylor started laughing at his sarcasm. Hey, it makes the person, ya know?
“Seriously though.” Isaac said when he calmed down a little bit.
He shook his head tiredly and closed his eyes. “She said if I didn’t want to be there, that I shouldn’t have to be. So I got up and left.”
“You did not!” Taylor challenged, laughing again.
He nodded.
“And mom and dad let you get away with that?” Isaac asked suspiciously.
Zac sat up and grinned at him. “Hey, I gave them my own little speech, and they’ve agreed that I could leave.”
Isaac stared at him in disbelief. “And... that’s it?” He asked. “No punishment, no nothing?”
Zac laughed, “Nope.”
“But you are going to have to go back again, right?” Taylor asked quickly.
He shrugged, “They said that they’d talk about it.”
Isaac shook his head, “Man,” he whined, “That’s just not fair!”
“Yeah, where’s the punishment in that?” Taylor queried.
Zac only laughed at them. “Hey, I’m the special one.” He stated happily.
“In more ways then one!” Isaac shot back.
They were all laughing when Mackie walked in, his tiny fist rubbing at his right eye and his lower lip trembling.
“What’s wrong, Mack?” Taylor asked instantly as he went to his youngest brother, Zac and Isaac instantly sat up in their beds.
He turned towards Zac. “Zackie, are you going to the nut house?”
Zac gave a small laugh, and outstretched his arms to him. “Now why would I go there?” He asked when Mackie hugged him.
“Ike and Tay said that you went to a ps-ps-psy-“
“Psychiatrist.” Zac supplied for him.
“Yeah,” He said nodding. “They said you went to one of those and that you were going to go to the nut house because you’re nutty.”
Zac laughed again and hugged him. “No, Mack.” He said smiling. “I’m not going to no nut house.” He glared at his older brothers. “They were misinformed or just trying to scare you.”
Mackie looked up at him and sniffled loudly. “Really?”
Zac nodded, “Yes, really.”
Once Mackie was reassure that he wasn’t going anywhere, Zac turned around and started looking for something.
“Uh, Zac?” Taylor asked curiously.
“Hmm?”
“What are you looking for?” Isaac questioned.
Zac shrugged, “My wooden baseball bat.” He answered nonchalantly.
Finally his fingers found the hard object by the handle. He grinned up at his brothers and held it up, “Batter up?”
At that, Taylor and Isaac were running from the room, and Zac shut the door behind them and locked it.
Dropping the bat and getting comfy in his bed again, Zac smiled to himself and closed his eyes. He was about to get his rest in for the day that he missed last night from being too caught up in the idea of having to go to a shrink.
