Chapter 21

"What do you mean who told who they loved them?  You should know."  Sarah says angerly.
Brian looks at me confused and says, "What are you guys talking about?"
While trying to stay calm I say, "Brian, we heard what happened tonight.  I think you have some major explaining to do."
“There's nothing to explain."  He says
"What do you mean there's nothing to explain?"  Sarah yells as she stands up.
"Hey you guys, I think I'll leave you two alone."  I say I as walk out.
I close the door behind myself and walk down the hall.  When I walked in the front room everyone was looking at me.
"What?"  I ask
AJ motions for me to come and sit next to him.  I walk over as he moves his feet, and sit down.  I take his foot and set it on a pillow on my lap.
I start looking at his ankle and say, "Hey Ashley, could you get me an ice pack out of the freezer?  Oh and get me a towel too, please."
Ashley nods her head, walks into the kitchen, and brings back an ice pack and a towel.  I wrap the ice pack up with the towel and set it on AJ's swollen ankle.  He gives a little moan and then settles down.
We all sit in the front room while we listen to Sarah and Brian fight.
"You're the one that told her you loved her!"  Sarah yells
"The only person I've told I love you to lately is you.  Oh, unless you're talking about my phone call to my mom last night!"  Brian yells getting mad.
"Brian you know what I'm talking about.  You were seen this evening with a girl.  You kissed her and told her you loved her."  Sarah yells.
Even though she was in the other room I could tell she was crying.
"I really don't know what you are talking about.  You know I'd never do that to you.  You know that you're the only one for me."  Brian says in a softer voice.
I look at everyone in the room.  They are all listening contently.  I look over at AJ, he's asleep!
I motion Nick to look at him and I whisper, "Only he could sleep through noise like this."
We both laugh a little.
Brian and Sarah still keep fighting.
"Look, it's bad enough that you did those things.  Now you are trying to lye about them too?"  Sarah yells through her tears
"I'm not lying about anything.  I don't know what you are talking about.  But apparently you don't care what I say.  So just get off of it."  Brian yells as he storms out of the room.
He walks over to the couch and says, "Come on AJ.  We're going home."
"Come on man.  I'm tired and my ankle hurts."  AJ whines
I look at Brian and say, "Ummm...he can stay here.  He's pretty much already camped out on the couch."
"Whatever.  See you all."  Brian says as he heads for the door.
I notice Heather runs out the door after him.  So I get up and follow her.  When I get ready to open the door I can hear her talking to Brian.
"Brian, I know you're upset.  But I want you to know that I believe you didn't do it."  Heather says
The anger builds up inside of me.
"Thanks.  I don't know who would have told her that I did those things."  Brian says confused.
"I think it might have been Whitney."  Heather says
"Whitney, why would she do that?"  Brian asks
"I don't know.  Anyway, I think you deserve better than Sarah.  You're too good for her."  Heather says
Brian sounds a little uncomfortable and says, "I better go.  Bye"
"Bye"  Heather says
Heather walks in the door with a smile on her face, then she looks at me.  He smile turns into a face of shock.
"So, Whitney said all of this huh?"  I ask angerly
