chapter 85"Hey!"

Jocelyn jumped and dropped the basketball she was holding in her hands. She whirled, and squinted at the figure who was walking towards her. "Jocelyn, right?" the girl asked.

Jocelyn was visiting the community gym, practicing lay-ups and free throws and every other basketball move she could think of. "Yeah," Jocelyn said.

The girl was older, taller, and very familiar. "I'm Skye Tukano," she said, smiling brightly. "Remember me?"

"Oh, yeah!" Jocelyn said. "Taylor's girlfriend."

"Ex-girlfriend," Skye corrected, making a face.

Jocelyn winced. "Sorry. I sorta forgot..."

"No problem," Skye said. "So, you plan on trying out for the team next year?"

"Yeah," Jocelyn said. "If I'm lucky, I just might make the freshman team."

"You looked good," Skye said. "You may be one of the special few freshmen who make the JV team."

Jocelyn snorted. "Yeah, right. You made the varsity team your freshman year, didn't you?"

Skye blushed. "Yeah, well..."

"Everyone in the state of Oklahoma knows about you," Jocelyn said. "Future WNBA star!"

Skye smiled. "I wouldn't go that far..."

Jocelyn shrugged.

"So, how are the guys lately? Are they back yet?" Skye asked.

"The guys are all fine. Isaac is totally wrapped up in that Conna girl. Zac says he's totally whipped!" Jocelyn laughed. "Taylor, on the other hand, has been really mopey. Zac says that he's a real pain to be around. He doesn't really even talk much..."

"That's scary," Skye said. "He was always such a chatter box."

"I know," Jocelyn said. "They'll be back in 2 weeks though. Right in time for the new year. Zac's coming back to public school. Taylor may go back to homeschooling though..."

"Why?" Skye asked.

Jocelyn shrugged again. "I dunno. That's just what Zac said."

Skye nodded, and stooped down to pick up the ball that Jocelyn had dropped. "You really need to work on pivoting. You have a tendency to move your foot."

"Really?" Jocelyn asked, scrunching her brow. "I didn't know that. Thanks."

"No problem," Skye said, passing the ball back to her.

"Say, do you think you could help me get ready for the try-outs?" Jocelyn asked. "Like meet once a week and you could give me some pointers?"

Skye smiled. "I don't see why not. I'm never busy these days."

"Okay," Jocelyn said.

"How about Tuesdays at 4?" Skye asked.

"Sounds good," Jocelyn replied. "Thanks!"

"Your welcome," Skye said. "Well, I've got to run. Promised my mom I'd go do some grocery shopping before it was time to prepare dinner. See you later!"

"Bye," Jocelyn said, returning her focus to practicing.
